Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

First listen impressions:

Feel The Love: upbeat, modern, little mix vibe, chorus a bit weak, lots of potential - 4/5

Legends: immediate, upbeat, possibly a little generic, modern, GREAT chorus, ‘Cool Me Down’ vibes, again lots of potential - 4/5

Crazy: polished, I feel I want the song to do more than it does, a little safe, could be something from the current charts - 3.5/4

Astronaut: sweet, again polished, not sure if it will stand out or get lost amongst other songs, feels a bit generic, but modern - 3.5/4

You: starts so well, but the chorus doesn’t deliver for me, it is different though, and goes against the grain a little like Ukraine 2016 and Portugal 2017, genuine and could do well - 3/5

Storm: upbeat, enjoyable, really cheesy lyrics, decent production, feels like a current chart track, but also a bit generic - 3.5/5

Summary:
This really isn’t a bad UK national selection, perhaps the best I’ve experienced. Do we have an instant fan favourite/winner… no. But, do we have a serious set of songs and lots of top-ten potential… yes. And, of course, you never know what might happen with live performances/other national selections. The UK is moving in the right direction and I won’t be upset with any of the songs being chosen… let the wisdom of the crowd choose the favourite and then let’s have the best final performance we can!

Each year I think more and more that first impressions are important, as the vast majority of viewers/voters will only ever hear the UK song once... pending how good the acts are live, my initial ranking is:

1. Legends
2. Feel The Love
3. Crazy
4. Storm
5. Astronaut
6. You

I’ll make my final mind up based on the one live performance on the 7th… you never know how things might change!

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

SuRie - Storm Now this one literally was made with a Eurovision frame of mind, but done much better than the BBC usually manages. It's catchy and uplifting, but I don't think it's something i'd find myself caring for much at all. A shame as I was really hoping SuRie would be given a dark, moody, high quality ballad, but she's been given the cookie cutter Danish (I don't even know if it's Danish, just making an assumption) schlager.

I think we should go for "Legends". "You" is actually my favourite but I don't like it enough to want to push for it. I think the message we'd send by choosing Asanda is too good to pass up. We need to show Europe that we're actually woke, cause damn we've been in a deep slumber for decades.Time to change that.

Well I am pleasantly surprised by these songs. I like all of them apart from the drag from Jaz. We can bin that one now. Legends is my big fave here though. She better be good live and not have Sophie Ellis baxtor there to crush the song for not be able to transcend the ages.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

Legends has got to win! With a great stage show and a great voice, we can send something modern and current which actually sounds good. Is the the UK?!

The others are... mediocre, as someone who loves a ballad "astronaut" is dreadful, no no no no no. The girl band, Fifth Harmony Album filler song does nothing for me. Crazy is too repetitive. Jaz is a nice listen, but nice doesn't cut it. And storm well... it's so forgetful I had to check the names of the songs for the one I missed

I see the Legends singer normally performs on the west end, and was on BGT in 2013, the girl can sing just hope it's good enough :p

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

My verdict:
1 Liam Tamne "Astronaut"
2 SuRie "Storm"
3 RAYA "Crazy"
4 Jaz Ellington "You"
5 Gladstone "I Feel The Love"
6 Asanda "Legends"

Nothing I'm ott about though "Astronaut" and "Storm" are definitely in a different 'class' (if you can say that lol). I really like "Astronaut", very nice! I don't know why some people are liking Legends? I think it is a very disappointing song considering what I was expecting from her...

Hopefully Liam being the only guy (with a current song) will help him stand-out, especially given it's mostly women and gays who vote lol.

Go Astronaut x12s

Eh, everything feels sooooooooo factory produced. Such a shame after last year. Lucie really made that song feel genuine. Legends is probably the best here but I don't think anything is going to threaten the top 10 this year :?

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

Omg, when I heard the first song xheat That was unexpected xbow

1. RAYA - Crazy and Asanda - Legends; can't decide which I would give the first place until I see the live performance, love them both.
3. Goldstone - I Feel The Love; another good song, quite catchy
4. SuRie - Storm; I don't know if it's just me or the transition to the chorus has a Caribbean/tropical vibe  I like it though, nice positive song.
5. Liam Tamne - Astronaut; I like the modern sound, but even with my non-native English ''I could be your astronaut'' in an emotional voice sounds too cheesy.
6. Jaz Ellington - You; this would be bottom 3

Such a weak final from the UK.
I would save Legends and Astronaut in any case.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

Not bad from the UK
1 Legends , reminds me a bit of Nassi from France but provides the missing elements. I hope it comes across live.
Then quite far down from this
2 Crazy
3 You
4 Storm , sounds like a Song Steps would have sung
5 Fell the love, sounds good at first but gets annoying
6 Astronaut , don't like it at all, sorry

This selection is stronger than last year's one but Asanda is clear favorite for me here. Other songs despite being modern are too forgettable.

RAYA and Surie are kinda enjoyable but not sure yet.

Iconicxheat I love her song "Free To Love Again". It should have been an ESC entry.

Definitely! When they make her voice go "LOVE-E-E-E-E-E-E-E" xlove A music legend xheart In MYMU I confess I would have voted for her a million times anyway coz I am a KP fan but seriously I loved that song and that pink outfit too xlove

Hell she says she's going on The Voice next year so here I am crossing my fingers for Eurovision 2020 xcrossed :D

These are my exact feelings. It's an improvement, quite a big one actually, but I don't find myself attracted to any of these songs still. Asanda however has a song that I believe could do very well for the UK, and could be quite an explosive "we're back" moment. We have to pick her song. The others feel like 18th-26th place finishes waiting to happen, perhaps "Crazy" having the potential to do a little bit better, but "Legends" could get a lot more if things are staged right and all the pieces fall into place. It would be a fairly bold entry, at least by our standards.
