Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018
From the four I've heard so far:
I Feel The Love kind of just annoys me. I usually like cheesy entries, but this is cheesy in a bad way, and it's not really my sort of genre anyway. I can get how others might find something in it, but personally it just feels very ehhhhhh.
Crazy is an entirely functional slice of pop that would probably grow on me and wouldn't embarrass the UK, but it doesn't really stand out. Might be a decent "default" entry if nothing else really pans out well.
Legends has a brilliantly put-together first minute: it's catchy, it's well-produced and it absolutely stands out. The second minute pretty much just repeats it note-for-note, instrument-for-instrument, which makes it fall a lot in my books. The last minute's nothing too special either. Still, there's a lot of potential, and I can see this netting the UK a safe top 10 spot if it's taken in the right direction (though being the UK, that's a big "if").
Astronaut could either become a guilty pleasure or an annoyance for me, and I'm not sure which at this point. Probably more the latter; there's some stuff to enjoy there, but it does feel rather generic, plodding and "written for Eurovision"-ish. The verses are my sort of acoustic pop-ballad, but the choruses don't do quite as much... this could still go either way, though.
So far this feels like a better lineup than in previous years, though of course we've still got two songs to hear, so perhaps I should reserve judgement in case they're both stinkers and one of them threatens to win.
