A big shame to see a Eurovision giant sitting out but it's not like it's an unexpected decision. The country needs time to heal!

Bummer but not unexpected. Sometimes you'll have to prioritize and I believe the broadcaster is doing the right thing. There is still hope a private sponsor steps forward to finance it all. Unfortunately there is not much time left.

What is sad is not that Ukraine wont be in Vienna 2015 (although I sure will miss them); what is sad is the REASON why they wont be there!
What is going on in Ukraine is just tragic and sad. I really feel for the ukrainian people; a people that historically has suffered a lot. And in 2014 thousands of people have been killed in a conflict in a European country!!! I certainly dont blame neither the broadcaster nor Ukraine for not giving priority to Vienna 2015.
I am sure that Ukraine will return, though.

This won't shed any darkness on their glowing history in ESC, though. ;)

I think as long as Ukrainian territory is under dispute, it's a fair decision.

With Kosova, Northern Cyprus, Palestine and Transnistria we already have some disputed regions in the contest, which is neither fair for the vote nor for the people of those regions.

BBC News even reported the withdrawal

omg it literally has. Going onto world news/Europe and it's listed. Obviously big news then if the BBC picked it up.

I hope we will be back only when the war is over, it is unacceptable to have any song contests when your people die.

I agree. Especially when the director aggressor is there as well. I bet had they not had such an early NF for this year, they might have had withdrawn too.

It's so sad though. I love Ukraine at ESC. :(

Surprised... in spite of all the troubles, I never thought they'd withdraw...

There is absolutely no logic in their press release. If the war was the reason, what will they be broadcasting in the coming months - black screen with sad background music? Maybe they will stop broadcasting sports, remove the beautiful girls from presenting the weather forecast and everything else which could make people in Ukraine smile for a second. And the most funny part is that they will broadcast the same competition, where they don't wanna taking part as there it's time only for teadrops. Missing the opportunity to cast a message in front of 190 millions people worldwide is not the most clever thing that a country in the situation of Ukraine could do.

And on top of that, why the hell do they take part in JESC? Their national final was definitely not cheap.

Maybe they wanted to make children smile... Young children watch war now and JESC would be fun for them to watch. They're just children.

As a child I'd never watch such thing as JESC.

Well, if Ukraine took part in ESC2015 they'd surely kick Russian delegation for the 3rd time. Zlata -2-> Dina , Mariya -1-> Twins
