Maybe not hating, but indeed I feel a bit too negative attitude about Turkey here. Finally they will come back and maybe take Eurovision properly. What else do you want from them? :p

Well if TRT didn't throw a fit and withdraw how they did and then be complete hypocrites and moan about unfair voting then maybe there would be less of a negative attitude towards them.

edit: I'm glad the new person in charge has a much more positive attitude to eurovision and if they do return, I hope they improve their songs and have a better attitude. My problem is nothing to do with Turkey as a country, but with the broadcaster.

I can understand why there's a bit of hostility. The previous head of TRT left no uncertainty over his feeling about Eurovision so many feel like Turkey doesn't appreciate the contest enough. Perhaps something as simple as an apology from them would be enough to ease feeling :p
Yes, but İbrahim Şahin is no longer a General Manager of TRT. Now it's Senol Gökan, and he is willing to participate in Eurovision and it's most important thing for me in that case at this moment. We all should leave past behind and focus on present events.
@up - The same as above.

This is kind of unexpected to be honest, confirming this after the participation deadline. I find it cute and funny that they already put themselves on the 2016 wiki page, it feel like their way of saying sorry. To be honest, I would not have cared if they never returned considering how they acted, but I guess it's nice to have them back a bit.

I am not a big fan of Turkey either. Maybe the negative Islamic impression Turkey has in Europe may reflect bad to them. But really, there is too much of it under this thread. Even though the "annoying attitude"'s source is totally gone. All that matters is that we have one more country at Eurovision which is going to be much better. No matter who is this, or there is nothing about being more "special". If Bulgaria returns, that means x2 happiness for Eurovision fans.

There are people misunderstanding the difference between "politics" and "Eurovision".

I just hope they don't change their mind in the last minute again. Just like back in 2013 when they held that event with professional musicians, ex participants, esc fans and journalists which was actually quite a good approach to gather around to come up with a new path for the future selection process of the country in the contest -at least we thought so- they suddenly decided not to participate at all. Sad that I quite lost my personal interest in the contest past couple of years, didn't even watch some of the semi finals, can't even imagine the loss of interest of rest of the public. Would be just nice to be back with that new positive approach not to run for the win but rather to be present which is even better to hear than a possible comeback. Fingers crossed xcrossed

Well Turkey has had all reason to be "angry" at Europe and a little on Eurovision. After all, in many cases, they have been put out by Europe both in political matters but also in other, more small matters. For example they have tried to get the Uefa Euro football championship in 2008 (with Greece), 2012, 2016, 2020 (before it got announced it got selected to 13 random european cities cause "noone could host it") and now also 2024 and STILL hasn't got it. Also the decision (cause it wasn't really pointed out earlier by EBU and came suddenly) that they didn't get to prequalified in 2011 and also missed the final for the first time the same year, might also have been in the reason of feeling let out by Europe. After that Turkey has tried to go an another way in many ways and has been a success in some cases and not in other cases (Turkvizyon might have been both bad and good). That is why I think Turkey is back in Eurovision again, cause after all, they have a great history in this contest and I am sure there are turks that is sad that they haven't competed in the recent years. I often like the turkish entries and I hope for some great rock or some good oriental pop when you come back in 2016! Go Türkiye!! :D

About the wiki page, apparently a Turkish Eurovision fan website did that.

I just hope they don't change their mind in the last minute again.
That's actually something TRT would do. Also elections in june might effect the decision. Bülent Arınç will retire and there will be a new deputy prime minister who's responsible from TRT.

According to such a kind of reasoning - ANY european country could be "angry". For instance: Salzburg has applied 2 times for the olympic games and STILL didn't get it!
Sorry, but that is not a valid argument.
From what I hear in this forum it was more a personal decision of one responsible, who for what (personal?) reason ever chose not to participate. I'm glad that Turkey is back and I'm hoping for a good entry. But If I was EBU I'd take the chance and make an exception so that Turkey can already be part of Eurovision this year. There have been exceptions made in the past and there's still enough time to choose a representative.

Only if semi draws weren't already done.

Well - you could just put Turkey in that one where Azerbaijan is not - if you REALLY want to have them in already this year.
But I admit, that would without any doubt be the reason for conspiracy theories and unfairness claims afterwards.
I'm convinced...

Well if its fair enough to let Australia directly to participate in the final, it wouldnt hurt to reconsider the late participation of Turkish entry either. Yet i dont think it would bring a nice image to manipulate rules for a spoilt broadcaster who recently changed where they send 180 degrees in less than a year. Better to be a good little kid, keep their mouth shut and try to maintain the same mentality until the next application period.

Well, so they are pissed off for good, I don't care.

Europe has more in common with Australia than with Turkey.
