But what :am: :rs: and :al: are doing in the final is a a question for the philosophers under us xshock

Couldn't agree more. The Netherlands were at least five times better than all those. Pff, Netherlands were going so well recently..

Serbia and Albania both deserved it^

But what happened to the augmented reality?

:al: deserved it???? You went to the toilet during that song?? It was the worst live performance of the night, maybe even in years. If PKN and Eduard sang better then you, you shouldn't deserve to qualify

What an underwhelming performance, not like I liked the song before, but wow. I love how she looked on the right side at one point. :'D

Trijntje was really great on a vocal level. But the whole staging was really bad... The beginning, I found it really disturbing and frightening... I didn't understand what they wanted to deliver.

And holy God, what is that dress ???? From the back, she looked like an elephant ! xfacepalm

Am I the only one that thought Albania's performance was decent?
The worst performance of the night might have been The Nethetrlands unfortunately. The song was good in my opinion, but the peformance and it's whole concept just didn't work at all, it was pretty bad. And you could tell Trintje was very nervous, she really didn't give it her best today. After the Dutch performance it was pretty obvious the Netherlands weren't going to qualify, and it's all down to the performance, because the song was good enough to do it.

I cannot say I am surprised to say the least. Vocally Trijntje did well, but the staging was such a mess, even Trijntje had lost the plot. With a decent staging she might have deserved a better fate. Serbia and Albania probably fought for the final spot in the grand finale.

Such a pitty! I like this song!

The whole performance wasn't very good IMHO, she looked shoked, somehow fearful, and by the second recap I found it obvious that se wouldn't qualify, since I knew there's always been so many people disliking it from the moment it was realeased.

But well, at least, unlike other qualifiers, she sang pretty damm good!
Thank you Netherlands for delivering this tonight.

I thought the worst performance of the night by a mile was from Armenia. One of the biggest Eurovision car crashes we have had in years. Trijntje wasn't too far behind though, along with Macedonia and sadly also Albania (where Albania triumphed though was actually having a half decent song to begin with). Trijntje was doomed the moment she was with her mate Anouk and pointed at her laptop screen saying "I want that one". Good respected singer, good songwriter/artist.. how on earth did it come to "Walk Along"? I'm sorry for The Netherlands that this has happened. You had a brilliant couple of years prior to this and shouldn't feel disheartened. This just wasn't good enough, and the vocals were poor, at times almost painful and that's where Trijntje had to keep it together if she was to have even the slimmest chance of making it tonight. The song wasn't good to begin with and practically everyone outshone her or was more memorable.

The Netherlands' example shows us that performance on the stage matters a lot. This is a good song, but her live show was... cataclysmic! Especially a part when she was "fighting" with TV camera and she looked at something above the camera from time to time. It was weird...

i listened to this 1st time tonight. the song itself was really ok but styling was awful.

too bad, it could've been much better on stage. (must notice this isn't the first time netherlands has problems with staging)

I'm sorry for Trijntje! She did a great job tonight. Put so much emotion in the song, all in vain. I would have chosen her instead of Albania.

I'm not sad at all that we didn't qualify. I'm still so proud of our last years result, I can probably hold on to that feeling for some years. =)

Has she said anything yet?

Also, how would this affect next year? If shes a big star in the Netherlands, and she failed to qualify, then sure this will make other big names reluctant to take part now.

Well, I for one as a Dutch Eurovision follower am happy that we didn't succeed with this song. Learning what kind of song can best be sent to Eurovision obviously still has a very VERY steep curve for the Dutch and I'm happy that the Dutch selection team (who chose Trijntje and this entry) got their lazy asses slammed big time this year. I still remember Cornald Maas (our Dutch Eurovision wizard, who I usually highly respect) saying that they picked Walk Along because "Trijntje was the only candidate who already had their tape and song ready". I mean really. So they didn't give artists like Dotan and Alain Clark an ounce of a chance, just because the other artist "had their material ready". What kind of criterium is that?

But as all learning goes, it's a few steps forward and a few steps back. The last 2 years we made 2 big leaps forward. This time the Dutch selection team chose to fall back into their old habits: make a typically Dutch Eurovision choice and voila: hello non-qualification again. It felt like nothing was learnt from the miserable last decade compared with the successes of 2013 & 2014. But I'm still positive. I still have faith that they will learn from this and one day can do this extremely simple math: make UN-Dutch choices and you might succeed. On the other hand send something typically Dutch and you'll stay in the semis once again. It's really not that hard to see.
