It was predictable that San Marino was one of those entries widly liked by eurofans but ignored by casual televoters...let's face it, most of the televoters don't even know who's Valentina and her perform last year, hey just watch a cheesy song with a mediocre perform last night, most of them didn't really care If she is lovely and charming in real life...I'm sad for her because I really wanted San Marino in the final and I even vote for her...but I can't complain for the results, she wasn't brilliant last night, pity.

I wonder who the Valentina fans will be voting for now? I am gutted she is out of the final. The victim of diaspora.

Stop this pathetic comments, please.... Hungary and Malta have diaspora? What about Iceland? There was no country with enough diaspora in countries voting in this semi to justify a qualification based in diaspora. Even Armenia and Azerbaijan, they didn't have much, not to mention Greece that had only Germany voting in this semi where there are enough Greeks (and not even enough to justify a high note if non-Greeks didn't vote for it at all).

Greece had a significant diaspora in 8 out of the 16 voting countries voting for it. This was enough to carry it through, at the expense of San Marino. You only don't like to hear it because you are Cypriot. Truth hurts.

This is very unfair. Greece's was a stand out song, original and fun, flawlessly sung and performed. It would have gone through if it was San Marino, if it came from deserted moon actually, and it is a big candidate for a top 5 finish. It was never my favourite, but I had it on top of my semi final predictions last night.
The last envelope has never been less suspenseful.

San Marino's was hopelessly old fashioned, it was a clear case of fan's hype and its fate was always pretty predictable. It needed lots and lots of luck, which just didn't happen.

I'm sorry for Valentina not qualifying to the final. I enjoyed last year's song very much and checked her up then to discover a true artist. However I think this year's song wasn't good enough and more less ruined by the cheesy 4/4 beat replacing the rather catchy and classic 3/4 waltz beat. She more or less brought failing on herself by not trusting the song.

Mention these countries, please xrofl2

The only one I can think of except of Germany is Sweden, but in Sweden ESC is very popular, plus it's the host, so even if all Greeks who live in Sweden vote for Greece, it won't be enough.

But the thing is change of the beat was part of evolution this song was about. If the song was about something different, like "I'm still in love and suffering" and she's suffering through the whole song. Here, if it was the same all along, there wouldn't be any change and it was about the change of person, of getting out from that chrysalis... maybe Ralph went wrong with the dance part and should go even more drama, drama part in second minute, but in a way, the bright colour, the dance rythm show the new confidence and faith yourself, that's how I interpret it. Out of chrysalis, there must be beautiful butterfly.

Just wanted to post a link to performance with a postcard at the start.
I love postcards this year and the one with Valentina is one of the best in my opinion xheart I find it very laidback, relaxed and not over the top :)

I've already listed them in the Greek thread. The fact that you see absolutely no evidence of any Greek diaspora advantage says to me that you are in complete denial. Nothing I will say will convince you. It is evident that Greece qualifies unfairly on many occasions. It is also evident that countries such as San Marino suffer unfairly because of this. If you choose not to believe it because it is a little too close to home then that is your choice, it's still true.

Greece was better than this entry... The retro 70's disco beat, cliche lyrics, the performance........so so meh.

Well... first I'm disapponted. I'm very disappointed and now I think I have not musical taste since 2 of my top 3 songs are gone!
Said that, to be honest, Valentina's performance was good, not perfect but I heard much much worster performance in the same semi!!!
The song is not pathetic, I apologize with those cannot understand but it was simply genial and the rhythm change reflect the meaning of the song: from Crysalis to Butterly, that's why the song *start* living becoming dance.
Last but not least position: to be in second has lead her to be inevitabily forgotten plus in the over all recap they choose not a significan part differently from the others.
This year I wanted to be well ready for the show and I participated in many forums and on-line pools and this song has always been in top 10.
IMHO Romania and Armenia (which performed very good live), should not be there. Also Hungary (which I really love) did not have that fantastic performance and pass it.
To conclude I don't think San Marino will give up since Italy will partecipate for sure next year (1st semi was broadcasted on Rai5 and doubled the people seeing it respect to 2012) and San Marino TV is 50% owned by Rai, so if there is Italy there will be San Marino for sure and we hope to be able to lobby it!

well i guess Thursday was the day Greece and Romania officially joined Russia in the category "we can send the worst POS and still qualify easily"

idk, Valentina's song was so strong! i mean if it came from about half a dozen of countries with history and/or neighbors, this could be the winner.
At this point I'm really doubting that if Loreen was from San Marino, she would ever qualify last year...
