Oikotimes might not be the most reliable source, but I wouldn't be surprised if Voltaj would really act like that. From what I know, they prefered to do 3 payed concerts in Romania instead of Eurovision in Concert. And they are also 'dissapointed' that everyone sees Eurovision as a contest, when they are seeing it only as a way to share their message. Ironically, they could spread their message pretty well in Amsterdam, but they chose to not care at all.

I'm starting to regret more and more that Luminita isn't representing us.

Plot twist: In the night of the first semi-final maybe they will have a concert in Bucharest, so we would be the first country who will not be present on stage in the history of the contest

I didn't had any hope in them to lose it now  I'm expecting them to qualify because of the nature of semi-final, where we basically have every chance in the world. But I'm expecting 19-20th place in the final.

Gera11 Could you please tell us what Romanian press wrote about all this (if anything)? The Oikotimes web seems to really like words like "scandal" and "shocking", but the article was written from a Belgian point of view, so I would like to know if Voltaj or Romanian Eurovision organizers responded to it with some different version.

The Oikotimes web seems to really like words like "scandal" and "shocking", but the article was written from a Belgian point of view, so I would like to know if Voltaj or Romanian Eurovision organizers responded to it with some different version.

I saw the discussion in the official romanian eurovision group on facebook, where even some artists or former organizers are part :D But from a quick search I found these:

From realitatea.net (one of the biggest news channels) : Voltaj made the blunder to call turkish music shit. Now turkish people will not vote for Romania xrofl2
From click.ro (scandal press style): Voltaj, ironized by the english press, calling them the ambassadors of bad taste. They also posted an article 6hrs ago with the title "Luminita Anghel: <<The message of the song has nothing to do with Eurovision>>". The same Luminita drama is on adevarul.ro too.

Adding scandal near the word voltaj got me these results  :

e-politic.ro basically tells the same story as oikotimes.

The rest news are from the previous dramas, with plagiating, frauding voting, poor hosting by TVR etc.

Sooo....Romanian press wasn't too interested in this. Eurovision Romania Facebook page and TVR are kinda not giving a single f. From what I see, between all these negative comments on facebook, they didn't even broadcast Eurovision Greatest Hits yet, even though the announced date for broadcast was April 12 -.-

I'd take anything coming from oikomes with a grain of salt.

I don't find any evidence showing that promotion such as EUrovision in concert has any beneficial impact in terms of success at Eurovision. Conchita wurst is the only winner who also attended the event if I'm not mistaken.

And honestly, i can't blame them not wanting to perform for free. I wouldn't want to work for free either thinking about it. It then again, we don't know how accurate the article is.

I still will not suoport these guys. They didn't win our selection in a fair way. They really are a big name in Romania, but in Eurovision they are nothing. Their music might sounds good in some Romanian ears, but is nothing for all the others. The song has no explosion, it is like a right line. His voice is good for a live concert, but not good enough for a contest like Eurovision. They accepted to participate and still they don't know how to "eat" this contest and the biggest problem is that they dob't want to lern. I bet they even don't care about the message of the song, but they think that this will sell better the song. And what message they want to promote in Europe?! One that say that Romania is not able to keep people hone, to grow and educate their childs?! All the Europe know that and this is not an advantage for my country. I never though that will come a day to not support my country in Eurovision. I really hope they will remain in semi... even if this is hard to happen with the level of the songs from semi 1. But I still hope that an artist that really worked for ESC these days will take their place.

If it's true, I don't think it's fair to accuse them of refusing to perform for free, but I think in this type of contest you need someone who is dedicated. That's why I'd rather have someone unknown. He is more motivated and he also has a pressure that makes him take things more seriously.

Even if it's their right to do whatever they want, it still looks bad from the outside, since others took part in the same conditions. And also, they are part of a campaign. They play the role of a dove on TV, the only thing missing being their aura, if you judge by the words we all hear in interviews. It looks even worse if we think about the message they want to send.

We know all how the oikotimes articles are related to the truth. I do not think they did this. On the other hand, i think the song should have been promoted in Europe for a better chance in Vienna, but we all know how the low is the budget for ESC in Romania.

Voltaj answered in their facebook page about the article of oikotimes

Oikotimes recently published an article that, sadly, couldn’t have been any further from the truth! It is extremely distorted and actually contains words we have never said. We have never ever talked about any fee for our Eurovision related concerts, we’ve never ever even brought in discussion a remuneration of any sort for our promotional performances.
The only topic of our conversation was related to our technical request which will ensure a good live performance. It is not about asking a fee, it’s about the instruments, about the technician team behind our shows, and moreover, it’s about the quality of our show. We truthfully respect our co-nationals living abroad, and our song “All Over Again” is dedicated to them all.

Why sing in english if it`s hardly understandable and then project the message in rumanian? do it the other way round!

Along with Georgia, my favourite rehearsal today. They hit the mark and it's a wise decision to project the video in the background. xlove
