I don't really get the crisis thing. Is it economically so hard to simply pick up a singer and ask for him/her to compose a song ? or is it just " we can't have fun in a bad mood " :/ but you need to cheer yourself up with entertainment, mourning will not contribute to the solution of the problem.

Supposesdly the fee RTP has to pay is 200000€. Besides, RTP doesnt care about ESC, and its being privatized with a lot of estructural changes to be made next year. Its not just the crisis.

How many times do I have to say this, omg!

I wanna say that this isn't really a surprise, but it's sad :(

I feel mixed emotions concerning this issue. I mean it's kinda sad not participating in the contest, but it's depressing to see RTP's lack of efforts to make this show interesting to the common viewer, I mean most of the :pt: people don't really care about ESC. :(

On another note, have you read the comments in that article? British people are simply a joke when they talk about eurovision.

It's an article by a non ESC related website so these folks (no offense) have no idea what they're talking about. They just see that UK hasn't been doing too hot these past few years and just excuse it with the "Everybody hates us" cop out. Portugal's withdrawal is incredibly unfortunate but it's not the end of the contest. It happened to many countries and many of the returned, e.g. Austria though they all withdrew for different reasons. Sometimes a time-out can be healthy, in the case of Portugal we just have to wait and see.

Yeah, sadly any British media article on ESC has those kinds of comments underneath. I was actually quite surprised with these ones, there's normally much more negative stuff than on that article.

The same happens in Portugal, even though they're not as bad. Yeah, RTP said they would probably enter in 2014. Also, last time we did a time out (2002) we returned witha great song (even though it placed badly), so it can be good.

Sad to hear they won't take part next year. Their 2012 song was my personal best. Hope they will come back in 2014 with something good.

I was actually surprised to find out that no official withdrawal from RTP has been announced! However I don't think the issue here is money. Lack of interest and inspiration instead.

Portugal never join with a brillant song like "canta por mim" so this is the true decision for them. They have a potantial to sending a great songs but they sends a basic ,nothing special songs to ESC.
I hope one day they join with a great pop latin hit !
