Kantera's "LALARATATAKEKE LALARATAKABUM" is really catchy and tickes many boxes to please the audience.
If they perform well, I can totally picture them qualifying to the Grand Final easily. It's very captivating and engaging.

Kurt Calleja coming back to serve us some "fire/desire" rhymes and clumsy lines like "bang your knees" (?) - the last part of the song sounds a bit chaotic as well. The snippet was promising but overall, the song is underwhelmingly unnecessary and mediocre.

"Yo Listen" by Martina Borg is surprisingly groovy and interesting! It's definitely not a sure qualifier but it got some potential, imo!

"Rubble & Stone" by the Alchemists is totally up my alley - it reminds me of Malta's 2014 entry. It's a lovely, uplifting Country-Pop song crafted well.

Biggest surprise: DARIO BEZZINA ft. ŻEPPI l-MUNI - GĦAŻLIET
- divine intro, the ethno sounds, the combination of the elderly and young singers is a great addition to the song - the song itself could have been better, imo but in a weaker semi, I could see this qualifying as well.

Oh and now that I'm near the end I'm happy to report that AZIZ/A completes the trifecta with Heaven Sent and Kant.

I hated Kurt in 2012 because we was too cringe and fake-nice, but on this occasion... blithely firing off silly dad humour rhymes with the same plastic smile and wooden rhythm is much easier to stomach when the guy in question is also in this 30s (daddy territory). I found my endearingly lame male fronted song to go with the camp queen fave and thot queen fave. HEY LEYLA, WE'RE BOUND TO GET AMNESIA~

Well, once again a very mediocre selection is offering to us. I only really liked the Adria Twins with their ballad in Maltese and The Alchemists with their nice and fluffy folk tune.

I really HATED Miriana, Kelsey and Kristy with their even cheaper sounding copies of the already bad "Loop".

Kurt Kalleja with its collection of plattitudes and stale fire-desire rhymes was also really bad, at least he´s got some humour when he sings about "amnesia", because this song is instantly forgettable.

The rest was more or less boring average, Kantera started promising but it got boring very quickly and in the end developed into "Wellerman" ordered on Wish in Maltese.

But no matter who´s winning the ticket to Basel, it´ll be very difficult for the country to reach the final.

I thought this selection was a tonne of fun mixed in with the usual aw bless we've come to expect from Malta. Some of the songs go really hard. I've already said it but Juno. oh my! This one stood out to me from the snippets so I'm glad Victoria has delivered. The drama in that chorus, it's immense! Only thing is I wish we had one more round of that chorus.

Heaven Sent is another tune and I'm guessing is rightfully going to be one of the frontrunners here. It's more purposefully crafted than Juno (if that makes any sense) which makes me favour it a bit less but it's still quite the ride. I love the final chorus when it all speeds up.

I've got a soft spot for Qalb Ma' Qalb. It's certainly quite typical but I'd say a very charming Eurovision ballad. The fact it's in Maltese could actually help to give it an edge at the contest if it was sent. Melodically it does a lot right. Honestly would make for a gorgeous entry.

Yo Listen is so almost there. Brilliant voice and a really funky song. I feel the instrumentation needs something more though. I'm into it but there is something missing. MIEGĦEK BISS meanwhile sounds like it was ripped right out of Sanremo. I like it. Kurt Anthony sells the song.

Then there's stuff like GĦAŻLIET which has a really lovely, quite rich instrumentation. Parts of it feel a bit weak though. Kant which I really wanted to hate, but it goes hard and actually manages to be kinda epic. Kurt Calleja's comeback song AZIZ/A is very likeable too.

LALARATATAKEKE LALARATAKABUM is very much not my thing (I find it annoying to be honest) but I'm guessing this will do well, probably fight Heaven Sent and maybe Qalb Ma' Qalb for victory. That's my early prediction without seeing any performances yet. Overall this selection feels like quite a big, promising step up for Malta.
