Jury - fair or not fair? That's the question.

Oh I see what you're getting at, I prefer the old system as well tbh. There is more equal power between televote and jury.

Under the old system I think the UK wouldn't have done as well though...

Oh :p sorry, you would have lost some points then!

But yeah, it's not fair that a country placed 1st in the televotes will not receive points in the end because of the juries : was that meant to be 50-50? It's no use to vote then if the viewers favourites are completely removed. :(

What is also worth mentioning is that we are the biggest minority in Iceland, and yet we came 2nd in their televoting.

That! You also did well in countries like that. So people liked the entry obviously (and the girls )

Unfairest thing that happened to ESC. Remove all these pathetic excuses for "music experts".

I mean, if this was only about diaspora voting, we would have finished 1st (I think so).

There should be jury BUT shouldn't determine half of a country's votes. %20 maybe? I mean 5 people = rest of the country?

I think they are doing thier job, roughly speaking. We would have given Spain 8 points on televote alone, the jury avoided that. No neighbourly voting here then :D

I expected this last year yet, and when they said that jury will reveal votes, I expected they will vote more fair because it will be public after all... but all the same

So that means you won't be able to vote for your neighbour even if you like the song? Mitigating neighbour voting is a thing, cancelling in advance the votes of the viewers are another thing.

They deserved no more. That's what juries are for, I'm very proud of them.

(Nothing against Spain, mind, quite the contrary. I just didn't like the song and the senseless wailing)

The opposite can also happen, and it did in some cases. Besides, if the song was good, I'm sure the juries would have voted for it big time.

I don't talk about this song precisely, but if the juries do have 50 % of the final say, you should have given 4 points to Spain if that was 8 points in televoting.

The new system of song ranking changes all that, but it goes both ways xshrug

Of course the juries aren't fair. Televoting votes for their fave, jury votes to flop/help a song that did bad/great in televoting. These are the juries xshrug

They need to ditch this 1-26 ranking crap and go back to 1-10 again like before xshrug

Its beyond ridiculous seeing countries purposely ranking countries they dislike or see as competition at the bottom...that has to stop xhand

Nothing is ever fair. So, I think that fairness is out of the question when you look at the juries. Instead, I like to think of the juries as a source of second opinion. (first opinion if you prefer the juries over televoters)

Briefly put, I think juries should be kept. It's great to have a variety of opinions in terms of ranking the entries. Of course, there are outliers and controversial rankings, but with transparency everyone can see what sort of shenanigans these juries are up to. So, if things just look fishy like the :am: and the :az: situation. Then, they should investigate on that, give proper sanctions, and see to it that things like this are avoided in future editions of ESC.
