Chorizo Being a fun act and being a joke act is two different things, you know. According to the ESCinsight reviews of the first rehearsals, Netta nailed everything perfectly. Like slayed. She apparently got some problem with her background singers though. Fixing that and well ... she is leading the odds in a grand style and have done so since forever.

Netta is my minds winner, Bulgaria is the winner in my heart and Benjamin got my hopes.

edit:
hjärnsläpp: I meant escXtra lol

That wasn't a joke entry. The reason it was popular is that it was performed by a man. :(

???

With :il: it's again the same as with :it: last year: Knowing the message behind the song it's neither a joke entry not a fun entry I'd say but the audience will see this as a joke entry for sure and maybe they will love it no matter what the staging will look like in the end or they will hate it...

The problem with this kind of entries is that it's very easy to cross the border from meaningful to kitschy and cheap. Israel with this staging looks kitsch, cheap, too gimmicky and the song that way loses its point. This was never a winner in my mind, but now it's quite obvious this will not come even close to that. This is actually not even in my top 10 anymore.

Absolutely. :it: crossed the line with the gorilla - maybe not for fans that knew the message but for many viewers at home... It's the same now with Netta and the chicken dance + the pointless chinese cats in the background...

She nailing it means she delivered what she intended to deliver, I suppose. Yet even many people who voiced support for the song before the rehearsals are underwhelmed with the staging and doubt that it can win like this. I think the comparisons to Italy 2017 are accurate. Last year, many people were convinced that the audience couldn't possibly resist that dancing ape because it was so much fun...

Of course, you can say that Toy is not a joke act just like I can say that Ukraine 2007 wasn't a joke act because it contained a serious and heartfelt political message ("Lasha Tumbai") that was just wrapped in a fun package. xshrug

you guys saw 30 seconds of the FIRST REHEARSAL calm your damn tits

the staging looks absolutely fine if she wants to make the same impression as the music video. the video didn't have any extravagant background, it was just colourful and intense, which her performance is going to be. now that she has ditched the looper (smart decision even if i loved it), she can focus on her act and the second rehearsal will probably go smoother. but either way, i don't think she has jeopardized her chances at all (mainly because none of her closest competition made big waves either).

I get people want to speculate on the few seconds we were allowed to see. I remember myself jumping high on every mention of Loreen. I think Netta already proved she can come home to your kitchen and snap amaze your whole neighbourhood. She also proved she is an instant sensation on the TV screen. Her team must basically do everything wrong to make her fail. However, winning the whole thing is not so sure. Her biggest obstacle is no doubt Israeli politics and occupation policies. Personally, I have no problem with Netta winning, but I believe this issue will hover over her on every move. In the end we will never know how much impact it did, does and will do

Hey guys, after reading most of comments here about the rehearsals. Not gonna inslut you or something, but you know this is just a technical rehearsal and has nothing to do with the performance at all right? While some countries decided to deliver all the package in the first rehearsal, Israel keep some, so wait and see ;) Don't rush, we all know what is technical rehearsal, well at least I hope most of us know.

I don't think that success in a talent show is comparable to winning Eurovision. The judges on talent shows support crazy and controversial entries because featuring them leads to higher ratings. The juries on Eurovision are meant to prevent crazy stuff from winning and to ensure that the contest has a respectable winner. I'm not sure if your argument about politics is correct. Let's not forget who won the televote in 2016. Back then I thought that the audience would never let the least popular country in the contest win. Alas...

Perhaps and hopefully you're right about people not making a generalisation based on politics. It may be influential that few expect Israel in case of a win, to turn Eurovision into a propaganda spectacle showcasing chauvinist policies. We'll see how it could have looked like in summer. I guess the good Lithuanians saved us the fate you mentioned. In any case, I think you must prepare yourself for Netta going to slay on stage.

I don't get people why are considering Toy a joke act ? because it's up tempo ? because she uses some weird sound ? is that enough to be considered a joke act ? I mean all this act is based on laughing towards bad behavior and yourself cause life is already too damn serious.

The Ireland turkey is a joke act, The pirates of the sea too but Toy looks more like a "fun" act a la Yodel It or Hey Mamma.

Prominent chicken clucking featuring the chicken dance isn't enough for you?
In future contests, they will show outtakes of this next to Dustin the Turkey to showcase the crazy entries of the past.

More next to Verka Serduchka than to Dustin the Turkey.
