if in the year of our lord 2018 you still don't see why it is important that women assert themselves in the face of institutionalized misogyny then please go back to your cave in the desert and never come out again. i will not have this kind of basic "waaah what if it was the opposite" non-logic right in front of me. it's an insult to my intelligence.

also there is a song in this very eurovision year that features a guy saying a woman uses him and is a lady of the evening: lie to me. i personally find it crass and horrifying but clearly people don't have a problem with its message considering how popular it is. so you don't even have a point lol.

What is really an insult to your intelligence is that you didnt read my previous posts (or in fact previous paragraph even the same post). But hey that`s what trolls such as you do.

And you proved my point with your 2nd paragraph. Lie to me - crass and horrifying, Toy - Excellent song a ka Hypocrisy.

your previous paragraph is a shallow read of the song's meaning that is irrelevant to the point i made, your other posts are all childish criticism of the song, and i literally said people like lie to me, even if i don't. i am allowed to have my own opinion without some lowlife of this board invalidating it with inane "hypocrisy" and "double standards" comments. not that it would even be hypocrisy in this case because, YES, a man belittling a woman reads differently than a woman belittling a man, because of the oeer dynamics of out society.

also, trolls like ME? regardless of what people think of me as a poster, i am a regular-ish presence and talk about a variety of subjects. you have 25 posts, half of them one dimensional whining about toy. if there is a troll in this exchange, it's not me.

I'm not your toy, you stupid boy or anything similar could have been sung by any female pop star in the last four decades without any controversy at all.
Neither the topic and the message of this song are something new.

That said, i can't see this as directly related to the #metoo movement. #Metoo movement is something serious that must be adressed while Toy is just the 1 000 000th girl-power song of this decade, which is fine.

Yeah, the problem is that Israel and Netta herself are directly linking it to #metoo movement saying the song is inspired by it.

Well, ok...
Anyway, that's not a problem at all.

There's no room for controversy with the message.

But like you said yourself ... #metoo movement is something serious. "Toy" is not. It is a gimmick song that does not help with the idea or point of #metoo movement, but just tries to get some additional votes from some people who in their back of their mind remember something about a movement that was in the news 6 months ago.

And I agree there is no room for controversy of the message, because other than some chicken sounds and calling guys stupid this song has no message whatsoever.

But hey that`s what trolls such as you do.

This is unfounded. As a longtime reader of Alaska's posts, I can vouch that maybe he's a bit more caustic than most people, but he is earnest, sincere, and principled, all attributes that by definition are not shared by trolls.

He also clearly knows at least one woman, as evidenced by his opinion on the non-issue of this song's "hypocrisy." It is very easy for me to enjoy the benefits of not being told that I'm at a high-level meeting to serve as "eye candy," having violent passes made at me by drunk 50somethings, or any of the other grotesque tales of sexual harassment that women have come forward with even if it means that someone will *GASP* write a song about how they deserve just a smidgen better. And if that's very easy for me, I have faith that it can be for you, too.

Also, Alaska, I'll be sorely disappointed if you don't add "Also known as Troll" to your signature.

I really warmed to this entry, the chicked sounds and her faces doesn't annoy me anymore, I still think the chorus is a bit weak compared to the rest parts but i can upgrade to :7:

I love Netta

Considering Italy 2017 has over 180 million views I wouldn't look into these figures too much just yet...

But not many Italian entries have 180 million views. :) And I don't know about juries here, but considering that MeToo movement is actual now, it wouldn't be surprising if they push it to win. :)

And many call this song Gangnam Style of Europe, so maybe that is why it is so popular, it is funny somehow... And even though I am not into this song, I must admit that in weird way, it is the only song that stands out, I can only see it as a winner for now, if juries would support it, and there are reasons for them to do it.

I keep reading that this song has a message, well what is it? Is everything that has the word 'woman' in it considered to be about empowerment these days? Clearly that message is hidden somewhere in the second verse which does not sound like it was made on the spot in the studio at all.
This is tacky as hell, perhaps that's why it's relatively likable.
