well, did you or did you not love party voice? :p

i don't know, i feel the appeal of toy is obvious. behind the obvious amazement at a chicken clucking pre-chorus lies a song with a catchy chorus, empowering lyrics and a very charismatic performer. it's not a shallow joke entry, even if its appeal to some people is exactly that. i don't even feel this year is poor at all (it just lacks an obvious winner, which for some people - not you specifically - makes it sound por for some reason?) and i think it makes perfect sense that people have embraced it the most. i don't think israel will actually win, but people didn't go crazy. (unless czech rep gets top 10. then europe would have gotten very cuckoo bananas.)

"Party Voice" is absolutely terrible, therefor I must be gay as aren't we supposed to be known for our exceptionally good taste? Crisis averted.

Yeah, it actually does make some sense to me how this has been embraced in such a year. What other bops exactly were on offer? "Monsters"? This is delivering Eurovision to people whilst also doing something a little unique. Maybe I shouldn't be so surprised at how well fans have taken to it. 2/1 odds on winning Eurovision though?

This is my opinion as well. I can totally see why so many Eurovision fans love it and I can appreciate what is brings to the table. But it's currently got odds rivalling those of Francesco last year and I can't at all fathom why people think :il: have a chance of winning this year. It's fairly obviously going to be torn apart by juries and the televote won't take to it as well as people think. It's very much an ESC bubble song.

Oh we had an epic sax guy. If she nails it, we get techno chicken theme for the next 10 years!

I love how these few last songs improved this years contest. Well done Israel, I was sceptical, but you proved me wrong.

Sorry, I needed the drama levels to be high in my post to compensate for the fact i'm not Netta crazy.. yet.

You're definitely right about Netta being serious about her participation, and that probably sets her apart. The problem though is whether that seriousness shines through, and if juries which are likely to be filled with a healthy number of older people will have open minds. What Netta does is clever but as soon as some people hear her clucking, I think it will make for an easy bottom ranking in a lot of lists. Netta's act is very unique but she's taken a huge risk by going for something that's likely to be perceived by default as a joke by a lot of people. I've already tested it on a few unsuspecting friends and they thought it was some kind of piss take.

I actually do like that it's an open year, very much so. I don't like whenever we have such obvious winners. This year will for sure be an exciting one at least, even if i'm personally not feeling many of the songs.

I totally agree with you. I don't feel many songs either, but this is true in my case every year ;) But surely it is going to be an interesting edition of ESC this year. Obviously we agree that the winner isn't known yet!!!

On the other hand, as for your elaborated explanation about how you feel about Netta and her song - I can subscribe to everything what you've said. I am also not a huge fan of the song, but at the same time, I can understand why some people are flipping and tripping cuz of it. As for the final result and what will happen at ESC, this is something we will have to wait and see. And allow me to add one more thing to your list of "concerns" - this song looks and sounds fun also because it looks fun in the clip. However, even if Netta delivers it on stage vocally, I am still highly interested how Israel is going to stage the whole act. Without LED screen, how are they going to recreate that funky, crazy vibe that one gets with the clip? Will Neta (be able to) move so much and make all those face expressions when she will sing? After all, even though song is perhaps not an artistic overachievement, I think it will be quite a challenge to sing it on stage. So, let us see, let us see. Anyways, I understand and share your concerns. ;)

I just can't see how the chicken sounds will appeal to people... maybe this song has that Gangnam Style quality that makes people loose their shit I don't know

Well, I would say top 3 for sure. That's just the type of song you need to win the show. It doesn't matter, that there are many people hatting this song. All it matter to attract the most people to vote for it.

It's interesting that this song, while being catchy on the first listen, still manages to grow on you the next times you listen to it. I should be tired of it at this point, but no. I'm liking it more each time! :)

The chorus is too catchy  I wish the entire song had been taken seriously though, I don't get the need to act and sound like a hen.

Edit: I've just seen it's #19 in Youtube Spain trends

Found it! The first song this year I absolutely despise

When I finally thought me and the general Eurovision fan bubble became more in sync over the past years, everybody starts flocking to this abomination to remind me how different we are. At first listen I expected it to be burned by the fans, yet the betting odds and reception at this forum have left me completely in shock. Can somebody explain to me how a grown woman making chicken noises alongside an outdated dance beat can be considered a contender to win the entirety of Eurovision?

Most of the positive feedback seems to be: 'its so different' or 'it is completely unique'. To those people I say:

When I see posts like this I'm even more convinced in a great result. Don't be so salty please, it's unhealthy.

I'm not salty at all, for many it is a fun entry and it brings diversity to the contest. However I'm therefore not obligated to like it or praise it. I thought the function of this forum was to express our opinions? And my opinion is that this is the worst song this year ;)

If I'm salty about anything this year, it would be Alexander Rybak winning the Norwegian national selection

so according to the official video the use of the voice loop is quite limited (mainly in the beginning, as far as I understand it), so my fears about the performance being more mixed and taped than sung were unfounded. Actually, this might be the biggest grower for me this year.

ES2011 I don't think you're salty but I have to say that I don't like the picture you just posted. I worked with people that are "unique" or let's say different and they actually suffers cause they try to be all those boring forks. *sad moment incoming* Sometimes they put an end to their lives because they weren't as good as society was expecting from them and they couldn't live that life. The fork is of course not useful but only if you want to use it as a fork, we can try to make it useful or find a way to have its place somewhere.
I don't think that's what you meant (at least I hope so) but I couldn't see anything else than what I experienced with "real" unique people.

I'm gonna tell you what I like in this song in the most sincere way ( RainyWoods if you're interested) : I tend to think that people are getting more and more serious and specially in Eurovision, the contest is trying to build itself a 'decent' reputation. We have -since a few years- a lot of songs that are not bold or trying something new when ESC was always a place to experiment and to have fun. What made ESC so cool is that it was the only day in the year when you could listen to wacky stuff that Radios won't dare to play. As it was only an evening, people were wearing fabulous stuff cause hey it's just for tonight you know and ESC wasn't supposed to convince anybody, it's already an old lady that has nothing to prove to anyone. Still those few years ESC is like a teenager that is trying to be cool (in a decent way) and being ridiculous began to be its biggest fear.

Toy is - for me - the essence of "my" eurovision, for what I like Eurovision. The most genius part in it are the chicken sounds. It's surely not the taste of everybody, we all love ESC for different reasons obviously and that doesn't mean you don't get the spirit of ESC ofc. I pictured it.. like you know it's a birthday party with "cool music" but nobody is dancing, you get tired cause you feel you heard the same song for about 2hours then we get a lil' tipsy, somebody is playing Wannabe from the Spice Girls and NOW people genuinely have fun. That how I feel with Toy.
