After some heavy listening over the weekend I have mixed feelings and a little less confidence in a qualification for Ireland this year. Really hope the public & juries make the right call on Friday.

Samantha Mumba - My Way 0/10
Quite forgettable. I didn't have the same expectations as many had from Samantha as I was never a fan but as the entrant with the most professional experience here overall the whole package is poor. I dread the thought of a repeat Wild Youth effect from the Irish public.

Reylta - Fire - 1/10
Personally I can't stand this song! Reylta's vocals are far too synthetic for me combined with the corny lyrics leaving me with the feeling of a bargain-basement Aurora / Florence try hard novelty attempt that Will Farrell would be all over as an opener for his next Euorvision movie.

Adgy - Run Into The Night - 6.2/10
Overall this isn't a bad radio song, there are elements I like but it lacks power. I was a big fan of Adgy's previous entry into Eurosong Too Good For Your Love, until I seen the cringey amateurish live performance on the LLS. I don't think he's had enough stage/crowd experience since this so I'm not expecting a huge improvement (unless of course he absolutely throws himself into it). Also I can't get over the little ick I have with him performing this love song with his sister.

EMMY - Laika Party - 7.7/10
This song is an absolute ear-worming snappy nostalgic bop that continuously occupies my mind! The problem is Ireland would be taking 100steps backwards if we send it.

NIYL - Growth 8/10
There's a really slow unnatural start to the song that I feel is not grabbing the listener, but as soon it starts to build towards the end of the first verse, it's quite captivating and clever in a way as we're literally hearing & feeling the growth as the song progresses. It's a journey for sure, only question is will it be able to hold the audience - I hope so! I hope we're mesmerized by NIYL's performance which I know he's capable of achieving and for the same reasons I think the fans are sleeping on this a bit, I do think the Irish public will eat this up especially with the Dermot Kennedy-esq vibes.

Bobbi Arlo - Powerplay 8/10
This is the song the fans THINK they want! Me included!! Yes it's an edgy-pop song at its core with nothing really wrong with it, we just need MORE and there's 20odd seconds to do just that! I think there's plenty of room to build on this and hopefully the result will be an epic, explosive, high energy monumental spectacle of a performance!

There's no clear winner here like last year, it's quite hard to predict what way the voting will go on Friday but if you ask me there are only 2 real possibilities of an Irish qualification in May. And lets be honest we're still playing THAT game! Lets not get comfortable folks!

If we send Bobbi we’ll definitely qualify as long as the performance is strong.

I think because of Ireland qualification record we tend to play devils advocate with their chances a lot more than we would if the song represented another nation. Realistically though if it was representing a country with a strong Q record we’d be expecting it to qualify and the same applies here.

I think others can qualify but the the aim would be just to Q whereas Bobbi is the one nailed on Q if it’s picked.

Hopefully it will be, but really I don’t think we can predict anything till we see the live performances. Agree 100% if it works - its definitely our best bet at doing well in May

None of the songs are doing anything for me. I thought the Bobbi Arlo song would be better after hearing the hype.

I'll give the songs another chance. Maybe they will grow on me when I see them performed

Running order:

Here~

1. Adgy
2. Bobbi
3. Reylta
4. Samantha Mumba
5. Niyl
6. Emmy

Bobbi in the Bambie Spot 👀

(Truth be told, I do not like Laika Party going last -I hate that song, and if it wins while Bobbi, Reylta and Niyl are right there, I will call PETA for animal cruelty lol But I will trust in the irish people 😌)

My prediction for how to scores will be given out tomorrow night. I've leaned more into "people will vote for Samantha because they know her" than I would personally predict. I don't see Samantha getting higher than 3rd in the televote. (I think 4th might be more likely but I went with 3rd just to be safe)

Irish Public
12 - Powerplay
10 - Fire
08 - My Way
06 - Growth
04 - Laika Party
02 - Run Into The Night

Irish Jury
12 - Powerplay
10 - Fire
08 - Growth
06 - Laika Party
04 - My Way
02 - Run Into The Night

International Jury
12 - Laika Party
10 - Powerplay
08 - Fire
06 - Run Into The Night
04 - Growth
02 - My Way

Final Score
1st. Powerplay - 34
2nd. Fire - 28
3rd. Laika Party - 22
4th. Growth - 18
5th. My Way - 14
6th. Run Into The Night - 10

I could see the irish jury ranking Samantha above Emmy though if they want to be "respectful" towards Samantha.

I could see some of them going up and down a little in points based on how they perform live (I could maybe see Emmy outperforming Niyl in the televote) but not enough to change the final outcome. Unless some people very dramatically bomb...

Bobbi's latest tweet seemed to indicate that in her first rehearsal, despite "slaying" the performance, her vocals "werent great".

Obviously these were her words so maybe she's being self-critical, or maybe she's pointing towards the acoustics , but if her vocals werent great I am concerned because AFAIK the International jury vote on the rehearsal the night before. (Maybe the irish jury too but idk on that one).

Reading this tweet has risen my anxiety levels considerably.

Reylta is getting a bit of fire right now, rightfully so, IMO.

She was among the artists who signed the letter for Bambie to withdraw last year. Now she's competing in Eurosong. Asked about that, she said she would still sign that Letter again as of now. Asked if that means she won't be going to Eurovision if she wins Eurosong, she refused to answer.

Honestly I hate behavior like that. So hypocritical - and it really Shows that sighing such a Letter is virtue signaling for many. Ugh.

Bobbi is probably winning tonight, and i'm fine with that, but at the same time, being a bit alternative doesn't mean you're as good as Ailsha or Bambie Thug. Ireland needs to understand this

I, however am still on this doggo's team xdance2

I genuinely wonder are the people being critical of Powerplay even properly listen to the song before offering an opinion on it?

Of course it’s not for everyone but “alternative” and being compared to Go Tobann or Doomsday Blue…I’m sorry but what? 😂

Next let’s compare Kalush Orchastra with Loreen!

"Powerplay" is my second favorite song in this selection... i just don't care enough about it to be excited about it winning tonight.. that's all xrofl

My comparison had nothing to do with how similar the songs are because they aren't

And yes, i'm one of those crazy eurofans who hears every single song that's competeing for eurovision, including 140+ songs from San Marino alone in 2024. This year we'll have over 200 xmusic

I’m pleased to announce that I should be around this evening for my usual (unwanted) commentary of our Irish siblings’ selection show this evening - I’m waiting for my PR package from Spar and Meridian peanut butter as we speak!

I've not listened to any of the songs in this national final. Anyone as good as Bambie Thug last year would be great, or just some alternative music.

Okay, lettuce chill, all he was saying was that they're in an extremely broad similar genre umbrella that doesn't have a 100% hit rate

I have an extremely important question that will need to be answered by someone (possibly multiple people for extra peace of mind) before I settle down tonight to watch Ireland select their Eurovision entry on The Late Late Show....

Will there be a fabulous peanut butter hamper giveaway for each audience member?

I have a very important followup question:

If so, using what we learned in the original question, will it be the creamy kind of peanut butter, or has some kind of terrible accident happened that will cause chunky peanut butter to be inflicted upon the audience?

Very few artists have great vocals at eurosong, the sound production is terrible on the late late show. Having decent vocals is usually a win.
