I'd say a two week time period would do the opposite. Artists who aren't currently thinking about Eurovision might not even be aware submissions are open until the last moment. Eurovisiony acts may be waiting for the announcement and already have something prepared.

Maybe so when you put it that way. I was thinking more that songs which are already written would be submitted instead of people writing one to submit.

So Jedward are trying again. If they are picked for Ireland, is there some way Ireland can be thrown out of the competition?

Jedward were magnificent both times I will have you know!

no, just no. They were horribly flat and out of tune in both 2011 and 2012, the backing vocalists were absolutely terrible as well. They grate on me massively, and I don't think i could stand to watch a single point be wasted on them.

Is anyone else on the "Anyone but Eoghan Quigg" ticket?

Say what you will about Jedward, but "Lipstick" and "Waterline" were Ireland's two best placings between 2007 and today.

Also in re X-Factor alumni: yes, the show is abhorrent, but folk from The X-Factor got their start performing for television audiences, which you need to be able to do at Eurovision.

Jedward may not be great singers, but luckily, Eurovision is a song contest. If they enter another song like Lipstick that plays to their strengths (i.e. Simple, catchy and easy to sing while giving them ample room to prat about on stage), then they're welcome. My problem is that they've tended recently to try to be sexy and overreach themselves musically.

While Jedward can be good, I hope Ireland can do better under the new system. If we end up with the same low quality entries as we did under the mentor system, then we might as well have the brothers Grimes.

Jedward again? Ireland must be desperate. Yes they got good finishes, but from a personal viewpoint I can't stand them.

Irealnd must be desperate? They're not being internally selected, Ireland is holding a open NF and they want to participate.

If RTE even allow Jedward on the selection show I've no sympathy for them whatsoever. Jedward are a one off act only, they did well the first time and flopped the second, they'd likely not even qualify this time.
