No you I didn't. I shouldn't have made the draw live so I could've made the semis more balanced. So many songs failed tonight, that should've qualified in different semifinals.

For WV 57 another NF is planned. The motto of this will be "returning artists" some known bands and singers you will find there

I really loved your song and already prepared to fill in another 12 into the icelandic line at my all-time ranking Fairly, Svealand has now the chance to show up, since it also would've gotten many points in WV53+54. Only Scotland should now be far away again
Ásgeir is now a true discovery in my Spotify lists. What a shame that he now did not qualify. Also Kaleo and Low Roar I listened more. About Jónsi/Sigur Rós and Of Monsters And Men I think I don't need to say more. You're amazing. You destroyed Iceland/Höfuðborgarsvæðið for me

Thank you for your beautiful words. I knew before that you love my entries but it still makes me always happy reading a love confession like this!
Even though Svealand is my big rival in that ranking I admit that it deserves to get this advantage since it was robbed twice in a row It even lost the first place in my favorites ranking
I hope I will come back even stronger than before. After Tilbury failed I came back with 6th and 8th place. I take this as an omen
Btw, Ásgeir is working on his new album. I guess it will be relaeased someday in winter.

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,
I’m delighted to tell you that Iceland’s popular and loved National Final is back! Welcome to Söngvakeppnin 56! However, this time it isn’t an usual Söngvakeppnin… The Iceland WV comission was like „We gotta be innovative, gurls

“ so they decided to take a big risk and put their trust into instrumental artists. So the official name of this show is „Söngvakeppnin 56 – Instrumental Edition“
Icelands Worldvision commision announced in all domestic television channels that every band/composer which is interested in representing Iceland in the world’s most important music event is welcome to apply and to take part in a super-complicated casting process which is gonna peak in a dramatic final.
However, the IWVC received 4 applications.
That’s why there will be just a final and all participants are allowed to perform (or let perform) two of their songs, which are 8 songs in total.

THE ARTISTS

1. Ólafur Arnalds
The only participants who got already some WV experience as composer for „A hundred reasons“ that became 12th in WV 44 and – this might be more mentionable – 3rd in Congrats Edition.
Starting his music career as a percussionist of Hardcore-punk band, he focussed more on compositions and became a composer of mainly classical, ambient and electronic music. He is multi-instrumentalist but he can’t sing well at all, that’s why this competition is arguably perfect for him.
His career skyrocketed pretty fast. In 2008, when he was on tour with Sigur Rós as their opening act he was still an unknown guy while nowadays he produces a lot of movie/series soundtracks f. e. the soundtrack of the British crime series „Broadchurch“.
In this Söngvakeppnin he will perform two songs of his album „Living Room Songs“ from 2011, probably his best album so far.

2. Amiina
The group that was chosen to save the female quota. No, seriously: Amiina is a string quartet that exists since 1998. At the beginning of their career they played famous songs on different events in Iceland but later on they created their own songs. What they do is something like chamber music, very calm and relaxing. Music that gives you a good feeling while listening to it.
Amiina were also playing the strings in several songs from Sigur Rós, especially in the songs of the untitled album as well as of the „Takk“ album.
Amiina is gonna perform two songs of their newest album (from 2013) called „The Lighthouse Project“

3. For A Minor Reflection
For A Minor Reflection is a post-rock band (what an underrated genre this is…) consisting of 4 members. Most of their songs are around 10 minutes long which is typical for this genre. For a Minor Reflection started as a Pink Floyd cover band but obviously it became boring fort hem so they made their own songs (only instrumentals). Just like Ólafur Arnalds they were on tour with Sigur Rós (in 2009) but unfortunately it didn’t really help to increase their fame.
Nevermind, I think they‘ve made some pretty nice music and there still emerged a decent fanbase through the years.
They choose two songs of their 2010 album „Höldum í átt ad óreidu“. Don’t panic, these songs are not 10 minutes long.

4. Jóhann Johannsson
Jóhann Jóhannsson is the oldest participants (46 years) but also the most succesful. He is a composer who use to produce minimalist, classic soundtracks sometimes containing electronic elements. In the 1990s years he composed pieces for Icelandic theater, later for Icelandic movies. The soundtrack for the psycho-thriller „Prisoners“ in 2013 became his breakthrough in Hollywood. He reached his peak with the soundtrack of „The Theory of Everything“ (a movie about the life of Stephen Hawking) one year later for which he was awarded a Golden Globe. Moreover he was nominated for the Oscars.

1. Olafur Arnalds – Fyrsta

A song called „Fyrsta“ is apparently predestinated to be the first song of contest.
It’s such a melancholic and sad song.. probably too sad for this community But it fits pretty well to the current season

2. Amiina – Perth

Now let’s take a flight to down under. Perth is calling! What a celestical and lovely little song. I enjoy every second of this

3. For A Minor Reflection – Dansi Dans

This is a song about dancing. I don’t feel like I wanna dance when I listen to the song but I love how rocking this song becomes towards the end. Amazing!

4. Johann Johannsson – Domestic Pressures

The problem of his soundtrack for „Theory of Everything“ is the fact that these songs are brilliant combined with the scenes in the movie but most of them can’t really stand alone.
This song however works fine and it’s by far the catchiest. In my opinion it should be more famous

5. Olafur Arnalds – Near Light

It’s Olafur’s turn again! This song is endangered to be outshone by ist amazing animated video. Song is not as sad as Fyrsta but still very touching.. his talent to combine the right instruments to get a soft and pleasant sound is remarkable

6. Amiina – Leather and Lace

Similar style like „Pearth“ but this is for sure more touching and gets better with every second

7. For A Minor Reflection - Tómarúm

Nice, just a bit short and repetitive. Maybe you will appreciate it more than I do

8. Jóhann Jóhannsson – The Sun‘s Gone Dim And The Sky’s Turned Black

This is kinda a cheat entry since it has robot vocals. #thescandal
At the beginning I couldn’t stand this robot singing but now I think it suits the song pretty much. This song is a real pearl and has some parts that give me goosebumps. I also love the tension in the last part of the song

First of all, I hope this video is still available when you discover this thread. If not I gotta upload it on vimeo.
Anyway, there is a little mistake. For some reason the 6th song doesn't have a background picture but I noticed after it was already uploaded (this happens if you are impatient and don't check the video before you load it up...). Actually I think that's not a bad thing. It was only a dull picture of the album and without any picture you can focus only on the song.

The last voting I received was the first one in which the leading song (same like in my last post) wasn't ranked in the Top 4.
The lead is still comfortable but in between it was even a 12 point gap between 1st and 2nd so you can see how an advantage can shrink if some voters simply don't like the 1st place which is in my opinion quite possible.

Now the unpleasant part of this post... I didn't receive a single voting in the last 39 hours

I hope you guys didn't forget about this and you just postponed it. However, there's no rush.

I know that Stargazer might like some songs of this selection but she doesn't like voting in NFs so I didn't count her in.
I totally accept her point of view and would never try to force her to vote in this NF.
That's why I didn't mention her in my NF post although I mentioned basically the half community.

The scandalous voting that will go down in history came from the beloved Mr. Tambourine man who is hiding behind the Germany flag. He was the first person who disliked the former 1st place but pushed the 2nd place as much as possible... Looks like there are 3 songs fighting for the win. Beside the new and the old leader there is a song I didn't consider a winning contender at all, it's a big surprise that it got a chance to travel to Düsseldorf
There is one user whose Top 4 is identic with the current Top 4
