Of Monsters and Men – Crystals
Previous WV appearance: 8th place with „Dirty Paws“ in WV 42
Söngvakeppnin 57 starts with some „giants“ of Iceland music industry. Of Monsters and Men are probably Iceland’s 3rd power in music only beaten by Björk and Sigur Rós but at the moment they are Iceland’s hottest export, producing the finest indie rock and got a huge fanbase all over Europe.“Crystals“ isn’t as catchy as Little Talks or as beautiful as Dirty Paws. In general, the new album can’t compete with their amazing previous album. Nevertheless this is a pretty nice song and a nice listening. I’m sure some of you will enjoy it
„Crystals“ is also feautured in the soundtrack of the video game FIFA 16.

Low Roar – Give Up
Previous WV appearance: 8th place with „Friends Make Garbage“ in WV 53
Moreover: „Give Up“ became second place in Söngvakeppnin 53.
Indie rock is followed by enchanting Dream pop. Low Roar is back and they still didn’t gave up „Give Up“. Despite failing in last national final this beautiful little song was well received so it is a worthy participant. I would say this song is a pearl. Haunting, melancholic. Just find good adjectives for this. Hope you enjoy!

Tilbury – Sunblinds
Previous WV appearance: DNQ with Tenderloin in WV 51
Tilbury has some guts. After destroying Icelands precious streak of successive final qualifications in WV 51 they dare to come back to Iceland’s publicity which still bear grudges. Anyway, they are probably underdogs. Sunblinds is a completely unknown song that is in the same album like Tenderloin. It’s so unknown that I had to upload the studio version on Youtube. It’s a nice relaxing song that cheers me up just like every song of this band. I think this is quite well produced and in my opinion it should be a bit more famous. The start of this song reminds me on „Two Weeks“ from „Grizzly Bear“ probably that’s why I imediately liked this.

Kaleo – All The Pretty Girls
Previous WV appearance: Winner with Vor i Vaglaskogi in WV 45
Moreover: Last Place in Söngvakeppnin 51 with „I walk on Water“
Kaleo are back from their tour through USA and wanna enrich the WV again. If Feel-Good-Indie was a country, „All the Pretty girls“ would be ist national anthem. For me this is an exampel for nice Indie music. More specific it is probably a stereotype Indie song which brings out everything what makes this genre nice. The official video says it all.
Lead singer Jökull is one of the most talented and ecletic singers that I know and he proves it in this song… Nice falsetto at first and his typical powerful voice later on.
„All the Pretty Girls“ has been their most successful single and attracted the international attention. Thanks to this song a lable from USA signed them which will hopefully boost their career.

Árstíðir – Himinhvel
Previous WV appearance: DNQ with „Á meðan jörðin sefur“ in WV 39
Now it gets folkish. This sextett (from which everybody has vocal parts) presents a song from their new album and the only entry in Icelandic. „When did you send them???“ Yes, it’s long ago. Árstíðir has been my debut band. It’s already one year ago. I tried my luck with „Á meðan jörðin sefur“ but had to learn on the hard way that songs like this are mostly not obtrusive enough for WV. Maybe this also concerns „Himinhvel“, however I hope you will love it as much as I do. It has some incredibly beautiful parts and it definitely stands out in some way.

Dikta – We’ll Meet again
Previous WV appearance: 26th with „Thank You“ in WV 47
The Indie-Rock/Pop band Dikta delivers another brandnew song that is still in the Icelandic music charts. Just like Thank you this has this kind of explosive chorus that really gets into the ear. It’s less rocking than „Thank You“ but still very catchy and the lyrics video looks fancy. I love the trumpets in that song

One thing about the voting... As mentioned before the voting system is a simple rating system. That means every song has to be rated individually but at least you don't have to rank them. I know that some people if they love a song very much tend to push this song and appearantly you can do this also here by casting a 10-1-1-1-1-1 voting. However, by giving 1 point to a song you basically say this song is shit ... however, if that's not your opinion you should not give 1 to it. What I try to say: Even though you are in love with one song the other songs should be rated fairly accordingly how much you like them. The voting system I use requires it.

My Top 50 of Worldvision Finals since WV 39

Following the hype I tried to create my own Top 50 list (Top 50 in general, no discovery list) which was pretty difficult cause I loved more than 50 songs in my time here.
I only inlcluded songs of WV Finals cause otherwise it would be even harder and I would have been forced to make many researches cause I forgot quite a lot songs (and don't have records of my SF votings). So... Saor, Kurt Vile, Fever Ray, Falconer, Father Ted and others: I didn't forget you and you got a place in my heart

Next to the song I wrote the edition and in the gaps I wrote the number of points I gave to this song. So you see my number 1 ironically only got 8 points... I hope Aigars won't be too mad on me cause 53 was a hell of an edition with an amazing Top 5 (all of them are in the list) and I struggled to decide for my top pointer.
It's noticeable that in many cases the 10 or 8 pointers are nowadays better for me than the 12 pointers of the same edition... However, I think it is not unusual while the time is passing by some songs are growing and some are dropping. In general I completely adhere to the way I voted, I just realized that my WV 41 voting was weird. But that's the only remarkable thing.
