Man.... I really want to like this song ... I've tried for the last few weeks ... he's such a nice guy and very talented but this really does nothing to me. It leaves me completely cold. Nevertheless I think he's gonna do better than Levina - he could actually do a Nathan Trent (aka doing well with the juries but flopping in the televoting) IF everything goes perfect. Placing somewhere between 16 and 24 seems realistic at this point.

16th place would be an unexpected dream come true. But anything above last place would also be a step forward, considering the last years. We won't get last with this, I'm sure.
However: I think I know what you mean when you say "the song does nothing to me". Back in 2016 I have listened to Jamie Lee's "Ghost" many more times before the contest compared to "You Let Me Walk Alone". I do think it's a good song and I want to support my country, but secretly I sometimes think that it is indeed a little boring. And I am very sorry and ashamed of myself when I write that. I wish Michael Schulte good luck, of course.

I like Michael so much. This is not really his strongest song though, he has so many great ones on his youtube channel, wish he would represent Germany with "Falling Apart" for example. Still believe he might surprise and reach Top 15.

I still believe in Michael. He has such an emotional song and I think he can stand out with his story and voice. I feel like a lot of people forgot about it or aren't as hyped as on the night of the national final but I really believe that he can wow judges and televoters alike. Though I hope that they will change the graphics. We don't need orange/blue staging and lyrics written on the screen. I think going minimalistic with an intimate atmosphere and lighting would be better. I also think that the photos are a great idea and I just hope that they will only project them on the TV screen so that it gets even more emotional. Go, Michael, go xlove

Hopefully his vocals will be better on the final than in our national final.
Maybe he should use the lower key version of the instrumental that he used in Madrid?

Edit: Just saw I asked the same question already, haha  He also had his 28th birthday 2 days ago, so happy birthday to Michael anyway!

It got pretty quiet in here :D He will turn 28 tomorrow!

I really hope and get the feeling that the rather simplistic stage could lift up our song. Maybe this could be an advantage, I'm also looking forward to what projections they are going to use :) I wonder if they will change some of the colors they used in our national final, since I did not really like the orange/blue color scheme.

He also used an instrumental version in a lower key in Madrid and his vocals were stronger. Will he use the national final version or the lower key version instead?

How do you know that they're gonna use projections?:)

The more I‘m watching the rehearsals the more I think we will really do well in the final. It‘s one of the (surprisingly) few ballads this year and while some of the others are lacking important „audience magnets“, Michael has it all. English language, contemporary style of music, simple staging and most important: a very strong & good voice and heartbreaking lyrics. Even those who don’t understand English much will get that it‘s a sad song about family matters.
I‘m sure this will do really well with the juries, not sure about the public though. Depends a bit on the running order too.
While I have to admit I didn‘t like the song much at first, I can now honestly say I appreciate what a good singer he is, he is very emotional and he delivers a strong performance so he really deserves a spot at the left side of the scoreboard. I wish him all the best and crossing my fingers for a good result for us!

Well his vocals very rather weak in the NF ... He's gotta up his game if he wants to grab those jury points. As for the televoting ... I'll remain skeptical for now.
You are right about the lack of ballads though. Let's see what the first rehearsal brings.

Although I'm not really invested with the song I gotta say that I'm really excited for the first rehearsal
Hoping for the best.

(We're currently 16th in the winning odds and 15th in the top 10 odds btw)

Me too. I like the song and can feel with the song though as I lost my mom last year almost three times. Time is precious and I am always at the verge on tears hearing the song.

Interesting point of view :D

Really looking forward to our first rehearsal.

Interesting article! Actually deep inside myself I am thinking a Little, just a Little, that Germany could be a really dark horse. The song is mainstream (not negatively meant), it talks to many people musically-wise and also lyrically-wise.. Let's see! In the past days Germany climbed a Little higher in the Odds - don't kn ow why, maybe because other entries were not strong enough as believed? Let's see how Michael will be doing tonight. As for his singing, he is always good. As for staging, big questionmark.

Friendly greetings, GermanBango. I hope you are having a good time. xcheers
Just a little remark on that "betting odds" thing: Germany will not win ESC, so any money someone would bet on a German victory is lost. So "our place" in the "wining odds list" is completely irrelevant. And to be honest, even a top 10 place is not really an option this year, regarding the competing popular songs.

He won't be using any background vocals, but I don't think thats anything new :)
