Frankly speaking it is beyond me how intelligent women living in the 21st century can degrade themselves to such a level. :(
What the hell are you talking about? :?

I thought you'd have more dignity and not fall for such abysmal, misogynic stuff... or you are a masochist. xrofl2 Still, you should not support it openly. xsnooty

I thought you were more intelligent to understand the irony of the lyrics. Have you watched the official video? I don't see anything abysmal, misogynic or masochistic there... :?

Irony only works when you assume there are elements of truth behind what gets mocked at. Why broaching the issue of female submissiveness at all? Is it something which should be/is an entertaining topic? Do you find the showcased behaviour funny?

Which character is it? And why is she promoting it? :?

That of a woman obsessed with getting hitched. It's not even clear if she's in a relationship with the guy she's desperately chasing after. The "for you"s in the chorus can easily turn into something angrier. She's a bit of a psycho. Not meant to be taken as a any sort of role model for womanhood.

An uneducated, grasping and/or naive silly aggressively offering a man she probably not even knows her services as an obedient slave? This, according to you, is an acceptable way to portray a certain type of woman? xpuke

As I said, the character is not meant to be taken as a role model for womanhood. Quite the opposite.

Well. Scientists say that people with IQ level under 110 cannot understand sarcasm...:D

I understand you, my initial reaction was negative too but now i take this song as it should be taken - as a joke, and basically this song is bashing girls obsessed with marriage, Krista is playing a totally crazy girl that is going nuts over an idea to put a ring on her finger. Maybe it's not the idea behind the song but i prefer to take it this way. Just relax and take it easy :)

May I know where it gets clarified this is taken to be ironic or even as deterrent? And again, even it was like that there is no point in showcasing such humiliating sillyness.

I usually spot sarcasm well but here I do not see the slightest trace of it.
Well, as long as the EBU is tolerating it I guess we need to remain in disagreement about Marry me. ;)

Yeah, let's agree to disagree, just don't attack people who find irony in the song, i believe nobody would support it if that was a serious message.
Don't get me wrong, i hate the song in original version, i just like the acoustic version, the melody sounds nice in it ;)
I changed my mind about the whole thing after i saw the video, come on, it scream "this girl is totally nuts"
But most people will hear it for the first time on a semi-final night in live version so they may get it wrong and get offended, it's true.

The music video makes it quite clear.

Also, lyrics like "Spying on you undercover" and "Walk the walk of shame" suggest this is not a standard romantic love being played out.

Krista can sing about what she wants. I personally prefer this sort of satirical song to a love ballad. Maybe you should hand all ESC entrants a list of topics you find acceptable for satire.

Totally.
Like, Georgia's song is made to be powerful, full of emotions and oh so pretentiously serious blah blah, but i'm sorry i just cannot help but falling down on the floor and laughing for 3 hours when i hear a girl singing "your love is pouring down on me, you're my waterfall" to a guy with that face:

I take Krista instead of that any day:lol:

She looks so different here! Another person from the official video.
Is the boy sitting next to her the one she's waiting the proposal from?
Because he looks like someone who's desperately looking for a safe way to avoid a nuptial commitment.

I don't think we should overanalyze the lyrics. I don't think it degrades womanhood. C'mon! It's just a song, It doesn't promote misogyny or anything like that. Some of us maybe can critized that girl (the character of the song) for being such a obsessed woman, but It doesn't intend to be a role model, is nkt saying "hey girls we all have to be slaves of our men"

In another hand, some other people just take the song as a sarcastic way to critized this kind of girls.

Anyway, I bet most of the people don't really pay atention on the lyrics or don't even understand it.

Let's just have fun and not analyze so much, I mean how many songs says in their lyrics "I'm dying for you" and nobody think that it promotes suicide.

That's it...corrupt my innocent hopes and dreams. xcry :D

"I'm not obsessed, I'm just a woman!" written in the diary for the absolute start.

...really now. I do personally find it problematic. Irony, okay. There's nothing wrong with playing an outrageous character. But not to forget this is exactly how women are portrayed as being in certain circles - obsessed with marriage (to the point of nagging men about it), babies and being thin/attractive. We do not need to further promote this idea in the form of "irony" when there's plenty of this being presented as reality.

Even upthread we have the vile comment from a gentleman that the women finding issue are
just bitter because no one ever wants to marry them
Because women MUST want to get married and MUST be bitter and angry if they can't, right? GIVE ME A BREAK!

Otherwise, catchy little tune, sure.

It's about somebody obsessed with getting married... my cousin's g/f had such an unhealthy obsession too so I, for one, don't see it as a joke entry as I always wanted to punch the B*tch

Despina Vandi had a song with similar meaning some years ago (not talking about marriage but about women in general) and nobody thought it was against women or anything like this, smart people can understand that there is an irony behind such kind of lyrics.

Just have a look: stixoi.info: Girl thing
