Kuula was probably one of my favorites until Baku where he kinda ruined the song for me. It's great to sing big and high notes when it's appropriate and Kuula had already big notes closer to the end but he had to make the entire song about that. No bueno. I think if he would have stuck to the original version, the televoters would have awarded him more points, it was just way too off-putting.

Birgit's song does not need big notes, I mean where exactly should she do a Celine? So I agree, bad advice.

Exact opposite for me. Kuula was so boring at Eesti Laul. I also found it soppy and overwrought. By the time he got to a big finish (if there even was one), I'd lost interest.

At ESC it was a lot better. The soppiness was gone and he'd lost the breathy "I'm being really serious and romantic" tone to his voice. It had a greater urgency to it and a manlier feel.

Every time I listen to the semi 1 songs again, I'm more sure that Estonia will get forgotten between much memorable songs, most of them also in the first part of the semi.

This year's Estonian just does nothing for me, despite the fact it's by far my favourite Baltic country and one of my favourite ESC countries of the 21st century era.

The song is in my top. 15 (http://www.escunited.com/t9816-7/#post969753), it's kinda cute and nice but a bit too boring and dated to make some big impression, I highly doubt Estonia will make it to the final this year... although I think they atleast deserve a top. 10 in its semi.. and of course a plus to singing in native language.

This is probably the closest we've come to those nice 90's ESC Estonian ballads in an Estonian entry since the 00's, but it's too weak to be really compared to those still (Maarja xheart)

well, it is for Estonia difficult to make to the final anyway. Only luck will help us :)
But I am really looking forward to hear the final version. Even though I do not believe that there will be very big changes.

Superb

My top 3

1 Birgit "Et uus saaks alguse" [Mihkel Mattisen, Silvia Soro]

2 Dina Garipova "What If" [Gabriel Alares, Joakim Björnberg, Leonid Gutkin]

3 Bonnie Tyler "Believe in Me" [Desmond Child, Lauren Christy, Christopher Braide]

Beyond those three hard for me to get excited, really poor year.

Hope they don't change the song too much, changes tend to be for the worse normally and are just to pander to a cheaper popular taste. No gimmicky costumes or stage gimmicks are needed, and the song is nicely produced as it is.

Terrible draw for Birgit. She will really really struggle to qualify from that draw and will be forgot by the end of the show,.

Its crucial now her producers get this right. Her only hope is getting a very high jury score. She needs a piano on stage. She also needs the country inspired sound dropping and replacing with strings.A string orchestra has been mentioned. She needs that.If she goes for 3 backing singers to give more depth, and a piano and violin on stage with her great vocals shel score high with the juries.
The song needs more oomph as well so they need to structure it more so Birgit can show off her voice.Giving her more power and emotion.
Id like a big key change but if not at least the melody changing so she can lift it more.Make those refrains work much better.

Birgit deserves to qualify, shes a wonderfull singer, but with such a terrible draw in the semi its crucial her team get this right for her.Shel be forgot by the televote mostly so she MUST get a high jury score.

Drop the county style sound a must.
Piano on stage (real piano, drop electronic one)
A string orchestra with a harpist or violinist on stage. So Birgit,painist,harpist/violinist/3 backing singers.
Extra backing singer (3) to give it more depth,
Rework the melody so Birgit can show off her voice more,
A key change or if not so she can show off the refrains more with more power and emotion.

I hope they give her the sound and look she deserves as this is a wonderfull song, but if its left as it is it will sink out of view.

Apart from bad draw,Estonian team, should reconsider the stage presentation.
Its a girl singing a ballad. Also Austria has a girl singing a ballad.
So Estonia must think something clever on stage,so that there will be not many similarities with Austria.
Should be more theatrical.

oh and they could start it all with white and cold lighting,,but towards the end change it to bright warm light and blossom falling from the sky as Birgit moves to the crowd and engages them,,its in Estonian (wonderfull language) so most people wont understand,so they need to get across the song is about re-birth,winter turning to the hope of spring. The end all sunlight on Birgit with blossom falling on her,,

I just really want them to do the best they can for her,as it will be a loss to the final if she doesnt get through ,and if she doesnt its due to the draw and producers not giving her the right changes, not Birgit, shes a wonderfull performer.

It's way better than the Austrian song, and the music is more theatrical (if that's the right word) anyway. The music has all the drama and emotion.

The song needs more oomph as well so they need to structure it more so Birgit can show off her voice.

There's already loads of oomph to it, I don't want some cheap manipulative structure like the Serbian song has. The bridge in the song flows more naturally as it is, and that's how it should surely stay.

Yes agree 100% GRE.They key is the jury.Austria wont have the instruments etc,Birgit needs those,,It really is crucial a piano and a violin or harpist is on stage with her AND they must drop the country inspired sound.A string orchestra instead.
I agree again it needs to be more theatrical,,,not so much to lose the songs "virginal" feel, but enough to make people feel emotional and a connection.
Its all about blossom overcoming winters chill,,that opens the door for a nice presentation as Birgit refrains us from deep winter to a spring day full of blossom,

Bath the crowd/audience at the end in falling blossom and bright warm light,

Like you said GRE its crucial they make this stand out from the others ballads so it gets some televote, and make it as jury friendly as possible so it top 5s the jury vote.

And i am not sure if its so unlucky for Birgit,
because if you have a look at the estonian results, she was VERY lucky.
So,its kind of a balance right now.

If it was the voting system of 2010 & 2011 (people could vote during the show),
then Estonia might have more chances for qualifying.
But now...

It is musicfan, but they must drop the electronic piano and the country style.Trust me the juries will not reward that sound and without jury support it wont qualify.
Birgit can sing.To secure jury support they need to be more contemporary.Real piano, strings on stage.Plus it really does need more oomph. The refrains are lovely and an extra backing singer will add some needed depth.
Im routing for her but if they dont make the changes it has no chance of going through from slot 2.
