Re: ESTONIA 2013

I hope that Estonia will proceed with sending awesome songs :D ( except 2010 )

2009 > 2012 > 2010 > 2011

I hope they continue sending songs in Estonian, genuine songs and different sounding songs.

I hope Eesti Laul will be as good as it was from 2009-2011, last year was kind of dull imo.

Any news about Urban Symphony? I can't find any piece of information about them. Did they split up? Since Sandra gave birth to her child, they seem to have disappeared...

Here's the first collab between Koit Toome and Sven Lõhmus. Album to be released later this year.

I can't believe Sven is the same person who did Rändajad?, it just proves that Urban Symphony must have had much say in that song because both Getter Jaani's entry and the one above are some really uninspired generic stuff imo.

He's also the same guy who did Let's Get Loud. And the same guys who wrote Leto Svet also wrote Diamond of Night.

Proves my point even further then

Then he's simply useless haha. He is like Estonian Ralph Siegel, from "Ein Bisschen Frieden" to "Network song"... but change the titles from "Rändajad" to "Leto Svet"

I'm starting to think these people either had a ghost writer by their side, or the acts simply had much input in those particular rare but brilliant cases, considering 90% of their material have been laughable almost.

Well I personally think this new song is pretty good for what it is. Koit Toome wrote the music, Sven Lõhmus wrote the lyrics and the production part was probably 50/50.

Here are some of Lõhmus' earliest attempts in Eurolaul:

And two newer ones that were totally underrated, he should have won:

Taste differs :)

Those examples made it even more clear to me...

I don't know what you are expecting from Eurovision and mainstream pop music...

Well, you get what you expect. I don't have that view on neither Eurovision nor mainstream pop music, and I never will have. I judge music for what it is, good or bad, and for me there is no rule of what type of music could enter Eurovision and it's not a "pop" contest anyways.

Also, I don't have a mindset about pop as being something bad, there are good and bad pop, tacky and quality. Some people are really looking down at everything commercial, well I don't judge anything by its commercial appeal, I simply judge by my own subjective taste.

Rändajad is a good example of a high quality Eurovision song, you mean it shouldn't have been there?

Re: ESTONIA 2013

I think there have been some misunderstandings from both sides.

You think that the new Koit Toome song is generic, and I totally agree. It is. It's totally forgettable as I've listened it to five times already and remember nothing from. But this leads me to another point - it's listenable. It doesn't have any gimmicky elements that I hate in current pop music, e.g. pseudo-dubstep breakdown, horrible autotuning, repeating of a single word, etc. It's well produced and the lyrics, while you don't understand them, are also quite decent. And I think it's an okay pop song. It's not a great song by any means, but it's very far from being a disaster.

As for Rändajad, it's a typical Lõhmus' song. I'm sad to tell you this but it's 100% written by Lõhmus himself and Urban Symphony was just a group he but together for Eesti Laul. As far as I know/remember, the demo version submitted to Eesti Laul was a bit different and credited only Sandra Nurmsalu as the performer. And Sandra was just a girl who caught Lõhmus' attention in a singing competition. Lõhmus has never been an extraordinary songwriter, he has had his bright moments and a lot of misfires, but to call him useless is just too harsh.

Don't take everything so literal, no one is really "useless", I tend to be a bit harsh and sarcastic in my tone at times. But it's true that from everything I heard so far, "Rändajad" is the only actual good thing (imo) which makes me wonder.

I give him cred for that song alone though.

In the end of the day, it's all subjective.

There's something Rändajad related coming out next week, but I have no idea what it is.

Don't get your hopes too high. I didn't say Urban Symphony. In the best case it's a song that features Sandra Nurmsalu, in the worst case it's totally unrelated and I misunderstood something.

Re: ESTONIA 2013

Mimicry released a song and i like it so much like their other songs:
I tried to convince them to compete in Eesti Laul again when i was in Tallinn Music Week, hope to see them next year.

A bit off-topic, but I also liked the first song of Sunberryz:

Rosanna Lints also could be a good option for Eesti Laul:
