Re: DENMARK 2018

I have listened to songs from Dansk MGP 2018!
I love Rikke Ganer-Tolsøe – “Holder fast i ingenting”! I hope it will be good live. :)
Albin Fredy – “Music For The Road” has also some great elements I loved, but it lacks smth..I don’t now what..
Rasmussen – “Higher Ground” hmmm I dunno what to think and say, this tricks me a lot..it’s like a combination of Pirates of the sea and Ruslana. hahahhaha  It depends on the performance, but smth silly tells me I have to love this lol :p
I see ppl liking this on YT a lot, from all over Europe..ROFL!
Sannie – “Boys on Girls” is sooo repetitive… :/
I quite like Sandra – “Angels To My Battlefield”..smth in her voice reminds me of Sia.
GOSH I just hope CARLSEN – “Standing Up For Love”, Anna Ritsmar - "Starlight" or Lasse Meling – “Unfound” won’t win..these two are quite horrific.. :(

Didn't expect this from Whigfield. Unashamedly poppy, proper summery French house vibe. Come on Denmark xheart

Re: DENMARK 2018

I must be missing something here, because to me, Higher Ground is the only song that DOESN'T sound Danish. It sounds like a Viking war song. It would be a very risky pick for Denmark, but one that could pay off. I don't find it cheesy or cliche at all. I actually thought you would like it.

I would assume that Rasmussen, Carlsen or Sandra will win. But I'll be heartbroken if Rasmussen doesn't win, because this is my favourite song so far this year, along with Mercy, Esamiba and Qami.

I'm surprised you thought i'd be into this song as I can't ever remember getting behind similar NF songs in the past. As Sean mentioned, I don't think this would be an at all surprising choice from Denmark. The production itself is super polished (overly so). The song goes to predictable places. I don't know about others but I find nautical folksy pop-rock schlagers to be just too much ham and cheese. There's even a key change. I can see how people like it but I don't see how it's going to be something new for Denmark. It fits perfectly in with all the other stuff they've sent over the years (could be performed by one of their boybands). It's extremely safe. The fact it's got a viking coat of paint doesn't make it any less cliche for me, it actually adds. This music has an audience but it's not me.

I don't care though if Denmark picks it. I just listened to the full version of "Boys on Girls" and it's just far too irritating despite there being elements of it that I like. If "Higher Ground" makes most people happy then go for it. I don't think Denmark can sneak into my top 10 this year.

Higher Ground is the best by far xheat Can't wait to see the live performance. The rest of the entries can join Switzerland in the flop town .

Re: DENMARK 2018

I can't stop listening to the full version of 'Signals' by KARUI, it's seriously cool and not something I'd ever expect to hear in DMGP. I think it's a shame that it seems kinda unappreciated from what I've seen so far as I think this would be a really refreshing entry for Denmark to send.

Aside from that one, I'm loving the Medina vibes from 'Holder fast i ingenting'. A nice electropop song with a thumping bassline. Either of these please Denmark :D

Re: DENMARK 2018

ZoboCamel I just listened to Higher Ground in full and the best way I can describe it is a typical Scandinavian style Eurovision song from 2009-2012-ish but with piratey tones. I think on stage it will look great, but it's definitely not all going on in the final 30 seconds as you and I were thinking.

Ooh... just listened to it and yes, you're right. I quite liked the Scandinavian ESC stuff from that era, and this brings it back with a fun twist. The full version works better than expected.

Rasmussen to Eurovision please xpray

Higher Grounds would be perfect in the soundtrack of the movie How To Train Your Dragon
Kids would absolutely love this but I'm not sure there are a lot of them that vote at Eurovision.

The whole selection is slighty better than Iceland and Norway but I'm not convinced by a song yet, I like some elements in a few of them but that's not enough.

I'm warming up to Rasmussen.. This is partially your fault Ringdalen :D
I do enjoy the theatrical atmosphere.
My first reaction was based on snippets anyway...Denmark needs to fix this copyright issues asap!:?

I hope one of (Sannie/Albin/Rasmussen) wins on saturday xmusic

Currently, my favorite is clearly Rasmussen. It has an instant appeal and I like the strong rhythm.

Re: DENMARK 2018

Already curious how the performance of "Higher Ground" will look like, could be a good shot for Denmark when selected.
Although my favorite here is - as expected - Ditte Marie :-)

Re: DENMARK 2018

Denmark - what happened??? For many years now I have been quite disappointed with the danish MGP. Lots of safe, but rather forgettable pop-tunes. Even that Teardrops-song where on the lower part of my list that year.
But along comes MGP 2018 - and I am having a hard time deciding which song to root for! Even at the first listening several of the songs had an instant appeal to me.

Music for the Road - I really enjoy this! A bit Alvaro Solerish (even though Alvaro does it better).
Higher Ground - nothing new here... but it works quite well for me. Quite instant, but I know I will probably not stick to this over a long time.
Holder fast i Ingenting - Nice!! And I like that fact it is in danish.
Angels to my Battlefield - Another song I like, I like her voice!
Boys on Girls - threw me back in time! And that is NOT a bad feeling!

I will have to see the live performances to see what actually works on stage - also vocally. But Denmark has a high possibility of climing high on my list this year!

I'll let your favorite wins if you vote fro Charla K in Norsk MGP for me! :p

Re: DENMARK 2018

For some reason, Sandra - Angels to my Battlefield, Rasmussen - Higher Ground, and CARLSEN - Standing Up For Love make room for remarkable staging in my mind.

Sandra could do well with Loreen-like dark, intimate, atmospheric staging. Rasmussen (a "big" song), as others have said, is in a tricky spot and need to strike the balance between theatrical but not over-the-top

CARLSEN (another "big" song) can win this whole NF if they do staging that imitates an 80s power ballad music video. Like Rasmussen, the staging has to be cleverly done in order to not fall flat in the DMGP finals and the ESC semis in May.

Listened to snippets of them all, it seems like a very weak year, but Boys on Girls sounds amazing!!!
