Re: CYPRUS 2013

Does anyone thinks Cyprus will come up with a modern song again due to Ivy's qualification?

In 2004 Lisa Andreas gave Cyprus a 5th Place?
Maybe a finalist again?

Lisa Andreas is a nobody, the typical one-hit-wonder! She went back to the UK after ESC, to finish school, and since then I never heard anything from her!

Btw, I just found out from wikipedia that in the fourth series of the British X Factor, she made it through to the second round!

How about you send a singer, who is completely unknown in Greece, so they won't give you 12 points

Yeah, keep dreaming... Christina Metaxa, Jon Lilygreen, Christos Mylordou, Evdokia Kadi, Lisa Andreas were completely unknown in Greece, and remain unknown until today (only Evdokia Kadi is now in Greece and started a career). The only singers we sent that are/were famous in Greece in the 21st century were One, Constantinos Christoforou, Annet Artani, Evridiki and Ivi Adamou and a little bit Stelios Konstantas (he was an one-hit-wonder of the 90s). As if the popularity has something to do with the 12 points. In the 90s, Greece sent some acts that were completely unknown in Cyprus, but they got 12 points too...

FBI can't even help Europe about this... Greece will always give 12 to Cyprus, Cyprus always to Greece.

But one year I hope Turkey will give 10 points to Azerbaijan but it won't be 8 points I'm sure...

That's interesting. Some time ago you justified the 12 points giving by saying that one singer from one country is famous in another. Now you say that those 2 countries will always exchange 12 points. Could you explain why? Is it some sort of political act against Turkey? Please, enlighten me on this topic, because I really would like to know. Personally, I find the free points exchanging ridiculous and childish, and it reminds me the "sub4sub" thing on youtube...

I think there is a way, that they wouldn't exchange 12 points...
Let's say a famous Greek singer moves to... let's say France, and he would represent France in ESC
So... Greece would give 12 points to France, because they would vote for their own guy, then. This worked even with Belarus when Rybak was representing Norway (the only time Belarus didn't give 12 to Russia)

It's Greece that always sends famous singers, in the 21st century, all the singers that Greece sent were more or less famous in Cyprus, even top or tops names like Anna Visi, Sakis Rouvas and Helena Paparizou... Cypriot representatives, though, not all times are famous in Greece, but even if they are not famous, the song of Cyprus gets popularity there and it's normal to get 12 points. If we send a song that is awful and the singer is unknown, I wouldn't be surprised to see Greece giving Cyprus less than 12 points, especially now with the juries. On the other hand, Cyprus will be giving 12 points to Greece even if the world turned upside down...

Cyprus in many ways is like it's a part of Greece. Our music industry is the same, we have no "Cypriot charts" but only "Greek charts". It's like you have a part of Poland being independent from Poland, and participating in Eurovision. How many points will they be giving to each other?

Btw, what does "political act against Turkey" has to do with that? :?

I said this countless times... If for example Tamta represents Georgia and a less famous singer represents Cyprus in ESC, then Greece will give 12 points to Georgia instead of Cyprus, I strongly believe this...

Cyprus and Turkey have a history of not voting for each other at all. What is the reason for this? Isn't it because of the Northern Cyprus issue? Even now, you say that Cyprus will be always giving 12 points to Greece no matter what happens.

And I want to ask you a question - would Cypriots have anything against if Greece wanted to annex you?
You even compare it to a part of Poland breaking up with the rest of the country - there's a region that wants to be autonomous, but not independent. Actually, I think that they would rather give Germany 12 points, and not Poland.

And another question - is it possible for Northern Cypriots to vote in ESC?

Cypriots voted that they wanted to be united with Greece (even Turkish Cypriots voted for unity with Greece), but Greece denied to accept that because they had problems with the dictatorship etc... Today, Cyprus is in a much better situation than Greece, a lot of Greeks came to Cyprus to find job, wherever you go, instead of seeing Romanian and Bulgarian workers, now you see mainland Greeks... I wouldn't like unity with Greece, and most Cypriots would deny that, except the extreme nationalists.

Northern Cypriots cannot vote in ESC because they don't have the same phone lines with us, and Cypriot republic has no authority there because the land there is occupied by the Turkish army. And even if they could vote, that would be unfair, because the majority of the inhabitants there are illegal settlers, Turkish Cypriots are a minority themselves. It would be unfair, because there hundreds of thousands of illegal settlers from Turkey, and the things would never be balanced. If the Turkish Cypriots only could vote, it would be fair, and Turkey would get an amount of points from Cyprus for sure. But having the illegal settlers voting, that would be unfair...

About that part of Poland that wants to be autonomous, it's not the same with Cyprus. Cyprus was not a part of Greece and wanted to be autonomous. It is independent because it was a part of the UK until 1960, and back then, when the Cypriots wanted unity with Greece, that never was achieved, so it is independent from back then...

Some Turks in the political sub-forum say that Turkey invaded Northern Cyprus, because the Greek and Cypriot governments were putting pressure on Northern Cypriots, so they came to "save" them. I really don't know how much truth is in it...

Yes, I know that Cyprus was a UK colony, I believe that there are still some UK bases.

Anyway, 2004 was the first year that Turkey had given points to Cyprus, and 2003 was the first year when Cyprus gave points to Turkey. I'm convinced that the juries couldn't vote for the other, because they had political pressure, or something.

Re: CYPRUS 2013

I don't really want to go into politics here but I gotta ask for source for such a baseless claim.

Baseless claim? I was talking about the first time that there were elections for union with Greece, about 1950 or something. I didn't say all Turkish Cypriots voted for union with Greece, but there existed an amount of them that voted for that. Even if they didn't vote for that, the Greek Cypriots were the 80% of the island, the voice of the majority had to be heard. During that time, both Turkish Cypriots & Greek Cypriots were divided into the nationalists and the liberalists. Greek Cypriot nationalists (EOKA B') were killing the Greek Cypriot liberalists, and so did the Turkish Cypriots nationalists (TMT) were killing the Turkish Cypriot liberalists.
