Re: CROATIA 2013

Well, I'm quite sure that the show will be very popular in Croatia (maybe even in other EX-yu countries), but the end result will probably be a big flop.

I agree, it will be very popular in Croatia but in other ex-yu countries? Doubt

Re: CROATIA 2013

Is this considered klapa (I'd say yes since it says klapa more)

xthink This is not actually klapa. It is more like song with some klapa elements.

These are some examples of klapa songs:

First one is probably my favourite klapa song. :D

Re: CROATIA 2013

I personally like some klapa music, but I don't know Europe's reaction to it... It sounds a bit dated. But I guess more modern songs with klapa elements are allowed, aren't they? Because last year in Portuguese selection the songs had to be fado-influenced, and the song that won wasn't fado itself, it only had influences of fado... xshrug

The ones I liked more from the videos posted in this thread:
^This one is great! I like Slavonian music a lot, and the combination with klapa is great! xup

I wouldn't like a 100% klapa song (song without instruments but only acapella, it will sound very dated in ESC IMO)!

It would be very ballsy of Croatia to send a 100% klapa song. I would love a klapa ensemble + Lidija Bacic combination :D

If stupid is ballsy then go for it

Seriously they need to pop this thing up with some singer otherwise it'll just be some boring a capella.

This is exactly what I was thinking. They need to get someone to perform with these ensembles otherwise it's going to be one hell of a snoozefest.

Re: CROATIA 2013

Says the guy who doesn't really like pop

I don't dislike Pop, I just don't think Eurovision is only for Pop. What I meant with "pop it up" is not really "pop" though, more like making it uptempo or something contemporary yet ethno with a singer (like Proljece or Moja Stikla).. I mean none of those were pop... I just find this Klapa quite boring on its own.

Re: CROATIA 2013

HRT, the Croatian national broadcaster has informed Esctoday.com that there will be no national final or television show to select the 2013 Croatian entry. The broadcaster will select the act and entry from all the entries and applications it will receive. An announcement revealing both the act and entry that will fly the Croatian flag in Malmö will be made by mid February.

Also, what HRT wants is not a klapa style song, but rather a pop song which has elements of klapa. With this regard, HRT has not actually restricted their call to the traditional klapa style of music, and have emphasised that that this will be an important element in their 2013 Eurovision entry.

Woo, I'm so happy that they actually decided to send a pop song with klapa elements :D I feel kind of delighted now xcheer

But I'm not really happy that they will choose the song by themselves. I'm not really optimistic about their choice.

I really hope we'll be getting something like Proljece... please take this into consideration HRT.

Wow, these are great news! xheart xcheer

Btw, an interesting fact. :)
Klapa singing was recently inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Re: CROATIA 2013

I actually do like Klapa harmonies, but not the draggy old fashioned old people music attached to it. So now I'm starting to get a bit more excited about this.
