Oh come on, Denmark we favourites long before May. Them winning the contest was not surprising in the slightest.

Same with Sweden 2012 and this year. Last year we really didn't know who was going to win until contest week - Armenia had come in as the favorite and their odds dropped while Austria and the Netherlands rose after good performances in the semis

Not, Armenia dropped it just after Aram comments over Conchita sexuality that OGAY's fans didn't like it and since this they supported Conchita and they liked the performance of the Netherlands and Sweden in the semis.

into a truly western world event".

Fixed that for you.

Now a Kazakh participation would be the least they could do, I can't even imagine how they feel after being rejected for so long.

This makes me incredibly mad because when it comes to Kazakhstan, the rules are rules. But for Australia we can break every single frickin' rule because it's part of the western world. These double standards are disgusting.

I think tuorem meant that Australia is nowhere near to Europe.

And there's still the manual allocation in the semis. Why was that necessary? There were pots before, wasn't it enough?

What do you mean? The allocations to the semi-finals are still done by pots

If their victory was so crystal clear, then I'm waiting for the actual split results and points of this edition. Not the average ranks they revealed, that say nothing about how entries were truly ranked. Why reveal that while normal split voting has been disclosed since 2009? Just wondering. And the EBU's decision to publish the detailed voting ranks and names of juries the year after is the consequence of suspicions of irregularities in voting from various countries after the 2013 edition (Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Lithuania + Italy and Estonia revealing the jury votes against EBU's will...)

I think he meant that pots were enough to create fair draws because the starting position of each country was still randomly allocated, while now they use pots and then subjectively create draws by themselves.

Yes, but in the past it was a random draw to the semis from the pots. Nowadays, they manually pick countries from each pot and manually put them in a specific semi.

No, before 2008 they were just one semi, so pots were not needed. Pots came for the first time in 2008 with the two-semi-system.

Pots or not, the chosen draw is a huge problem for the credibility of this contest... I think in the past years this contest lost alot of credibility with the introduction of juries, the ranking which gives juries more power, the corruption, Austalia being couped in even if it's not even in the EBU etc. etc.

They don't. The allocation of countries to a semi is not made manually, it's drawn like it always has been. The only thing done manually is the running order draw, not the semi-final allocation draw.

Maybe for example Morocco is going to take part? or maybe even Turkey, despite the news?

Well, yes, of course. I didn't say that pots always existed, just that they existed in the past (meaning some of the past).

They don't. The allocation of countries to a semi is not made manually, it's drawn like it always has been. The only thing done manually is the running order draw, not the semi-final allocation draw.

Oh, right. But it still is not right, now is it? The running order is quite important in ESC, and they made quite a few controversial decisions... like the placement of Denmark in 2013...

Yes I think it's time for another step for Eurovision:
First step=western european countries
second step=eastern european countries
third step=international countries

And finally Eurovision will be the biggest musical event of the Wooooorld that everybody knows !!!!!

But it will be Worldvision and not Eurovision and this coup is even against their own freaking rules...

What is the deadline for applications?

Technically I think it was about a month ago? But as usual the EBU is pretty lenient towards anyone wanting to join after that point. I think I remember hearing on another thread that the absolute, final deadline was around the end of December, but I'm not sure on that.
