Re: BELARUS 2018
Oh my gosh. I didn't think i'd like that Gunesh song at first, but it kicks butt! It's so ridiculously over the top and she absolutely SLAYS it, all done whilst wearing a beige rain mac. I can't remember being on board for any of her previous attempts, but I certainly am for this one. I'm just bitter that only my left ear was allowed to enjoy that live performance.
Another ridiculous song I enjoyed too much is Adagio's "Ты i я" (You and Me)". I don't usually allow a song to contain this much ham but I find this charmingly insane. That tenor almost made me wet myself. Such key change
Bless how Alen Hit is back. I had a soft spot for his bop from last year. His song this year isn't quite as enjoyable, but I think I still like it, and him. It's a catchy little number.
I'm guessing ALEKSEEV must be famous or something, as his audition was kind of cringe inducing. I'd struggle very much to see how he was the big favourite based on that performance. I think his song is actually nice but even I have a limit with accents. Get rid of that English and this would be an enjoyable entry, albeit not very daring. Very well produced though. Studio version is lush. Super gorgeous.
Two others I like but am not 100% on: Radiovolna's "Subway lines" has a recipe for disaster. Soulful vocals and Belarussian-English shouldn't go together, but this is actually quite sweet. Not close to being in love with it, but there's something about it I like. Shuma's "Хмаркi" is interesting, but it lost my attention about half way through which is a shame. I'd give it some more goes though.
I'd rank them in this order (the other five I don't like):
1. Gunesh - I Won't Cry
2. Adagio - Ты i я
3. Alen Hit - I Don't Care
4. ALEKSEEV - Forever (high up based on the studio version)
5. Radiovolna - Subway Line
6. Shuma - Хмаркi
So basically, Gunesh please Belarus or I will sue you. Thank you x
But I must say that I believe Belarus might have missed a trick here by not going for the delightful "I Song About You".
