Underwhelming.
I meannnnnnnnnnn with all due respect, and appreciation for the song that slaps you in the face hard,
Gotta say that the music video is so basic cheap, Efendi sis.
Should have hired Senhit's director, who prepared her 10 expensive-looking ESC cover music videos overnight, with hundreds of different outfits.

I was so ready to post gifs of black ladies fainting but it wouldn't be honest. It feels like a much less impactful clone of Cleopatra. Still the drop here is very cool and the song is not bad. I will give it '7' in the poll as it is still a legit bop.

I was curious about what a song called Mata Hari would sound like... and I'm a bit puzzled.
On one hand, I find it better than Cleopatra simply because I did not like the song last year (the chorus was not for me at all): as expected it's got a pop structure paired with local elements, the melody and the drop are decent, and even if the bridge is "been there done that" everything works on paper. Special mention to the outro that elevates a rather standard progression.
On the other hand, I don't know if it's because it references Cleopatra in a couple of ways that it feels like a rehash of said song at times to me (not that it will matter come May). Also, I'm under the impression that it's a bit too... simple overall?! Like it's a bit two-dimensional with the beats on one side and the oriental accompaniment on the other. I wish there were a few elements of surprises along the way (like a change of pace/beat, an additional instrument, a vocal break...) to complete the arrangements.
With that being said, it remains a competent effort. I like Efendi's voice here, although a part in Azerbaijani in there would not have been out of place to spice things up imo.
I guess it deserves points from me as of now. I like the overall feel of the song and I hope it will stomp on El Diablo's toes, but it could have been refined and more impactful imo.
Knowing Azerbaijan and their staging skills, they should qualify from semi 1 with ease.

Hahaha, maybe some ppl will be surprised, but Im quite positivelly surprised, especially regarding ethnic elements, surprisngly for me, but they used REAL ethnic elements this time, musically... They are like Anatolian music elements from Central Turkey or some Arabic (sound Egyptian or Lybian to me), I still think it lacks vocals a bit, it is not demending vocally, Im sceptical about live..and lyrics are "meeeh" to me, still better than last year...

I suggest to listen to the Cleopatra first, then to the Mata Hari. Somehow it worked for me and now I'm in love.
