I'm a godless spy
I'm a spy, I uncover
All of your secrets, I want them
There's no stopping me now
I'm a liar
Playing the game of desire
Ain't gonna leave no survivors
Would you fall for me now?

Just like Cleopatra (Aah-aah)
The army of lovers
I start a fire
Yalan da mən yanan da mən yaman da mən

Ma-Ma-Ma-Mata Hari
Mata Hari
(Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma)
(Ma-ma-ma-ma) Ma-Ma-Ma-Mata Hari
Mata Hari
(Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma)
(Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma)
Mata Hari

Undercover
I am a dangerous lover
Drinking my poisonous water
And you're under my spell
Mesmerizing
Moving my hips, you are trying
You can't resist, try to fight it
Got a story to tell

Just like Cleopatra (Aah-aah)
The army of lovers
I start a fire
Yalan da mən yanan da mən yaman da mən

Ma-Ma-Ma-Mata Hari
Mata Hari
(Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma)
(Ma-ma-ma-ma) Ma-Ma-Ma-Mata Hari
Mata Hari
(Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma)
(Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma)
Mata Hari

Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma
Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma
Just like Cleopatra
Let's start a fire (Shh)
Let's go

Ma-ma-ma-ma, Mata Hari
Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma, Mata Hari
Mata Hari

Even if it will probably be a grower, it indeed has a bit cheap sound at some points. I think the sound is indeed a bit too Middle Eastern for it appealing to people in Western/Northern Europe. All in all it’s a nice effort, but does feel a bit flat on the first listen.
Thank god we have diaspora to combat tastelessness sfndjknjkfdskfnsdj xoxoxoxo

I’m just not feeling it :(

It’s definitely not as good as last year.

Although it’s not bad at all... might make my top ten.

Very nice. She's done it again and I'd say that this time it feels more authentic in a way. It's immensely hypnotic. I'm usually quite critical of lyrically sparse choruses, but here, my goodness.. the music is so rich and groovy that I just don't care. My glutes demand a workout. It's an enjoyably lively three minutes and I really like that surprise climax with the electric guitar joining in for a quick little rave. Mata Hari is just begging to be lip synced in front of the shiny prize car during an episode of Azerbaijani Wheel Of Fortune.

:10: points.

Okay so I can get on board (almost) with the instrument melody in the chorus, but that middle 8 break sunk it. I so wish I wasn't so put off but that noise - it must be like the Turkish equivalent of bagpipes for me (which I also vehemently hate - difficult to avoid sadly when you live in Scotland).

Overall the song is decent, the beat in particular bangs and I definitely think this will have a mass of supporters to push it into the final. It's the most ethnically unique of the bops this year, so best of luck :az:

This is unbelievably boring. She's lucky she's not in semi 2 because every other girl banger knocks seven shades of shit out of this one. The ending livens it up but that's like what, ten seconds?

This is my all-time Top 5 (1997-2020)
01 :hr: 87 [10x]
02 :az: 81 [11x]
03 :is: 72 [13x]
04 :it: 72 [10x]
05 :il: 61 [9x]
If you want to check the whole list:

:hr: has been on top since 2000 - the glorious year in which Godney sent us her magnus opus "Oops!... I Did It Again" from above.

I think it's pretty safe now: After 20 years, I will have a new favourite country in Eurovision!! Oo - I expected Italy to do so in a few years but wow. I'm speechless and feel so emotional now.

Iconic moment in my Eurovision history!

After "Cleopatra", I envisioned the choice of a historical figure. I joked that Efendi would bring the song "Marco Antonio" but Efendi's choice fell on Mata Hari. This, added to the fact that a song with the same title is already present in the history of the ESC ("Mata Hari" by Anne-Karine Strom - ESC 1976), were not very reassuring ... indeed, they were the anticipation of my disappointment. I listened to "Mata Hari" for 51 seconds and then I took the song off. Basically, what has been done is a recycle of last year's "Cleopatra" song. Sounds, approaches, phase spoken by a monk in a trance phase have undergone only a few misleading variations. I am very disappointed! I want to bring this choice back to one reason (unlike the haters, I always want to justify certain choices): Azerbaijan last year was certain it had a great song and they were right. However, Covid has taken away the possibility of "Cleopatra" to charm us. Azerbaijan consequently opted for "a safe second hand". However this not damaging the soul for a new song leads "Mata Hari" to lose all its power. There is nothing new indeed, it only arouses irritation in me. I repeat to myself "This I have already seen and listen!".

:0: for me.

I loved Cleopatra last year. And I was totally satisfied that Azerbaijan went into different direction in ESC, serving us what we all expected from it for years. This time it is Mata Hari. It has references to Cleopatra and for me the song is all in all, Cleopatra 2.0 ❤️ It is totally entertaining even though is quite repetitive. But hey, that is Efendi’s ESC style. Cleopatra was repetitive yet addictive too. (Genuine) 12 points from me x12points

In the swimming pool, always stayin' cool
At first glance i was a bit overwhelmed since i miss in this track this fierce epicness that Cleopatra had.

But let's say it : there's so much good stuff here. The simple yet effective chorus, the awesome oriental drop, the little refs to Cleopatra, and then happened this ending. And i simply can't resist this, may be her signature : the PUMPING ENDING BLAST. So so good. Also, it seems that this song shows much more her vocal abilities, which is great.

However i still prefer last year's entry, this is a really good one and maybe my favourite in the genre this year. Well done Samira !
