I was horribly wrong on Nemo last year - I said here that I thought it would not even make the top 5 and that viewers would not connect with it. In the end it won. It only got a 5th place in televote, but the televote was still strong enough that it did 'connect' with viewers in the end.I noticed this too. There is a gap between the reaction videos, where you can see often a astounding physical reaction and comments for instance on ESC- kompakt.Maybe it has to do with poor staging and vocal performances in the past.
Nemo's staging was successful for the televote due to their smiley friendly charismatic storytelling singing directly to the camera. It was so dynamic the way they ran around the stage and it made it epic with the melody/instrumental. You have to connect to a performer to want to vote for them. Odds: only 1 % gap to the Swedes
Yes, there is a risk with this kind of song I think, that Austria's staging comes across as a bit cold and people don't connect.... they can avoid thisNemo's staging was successful for the televote due to their smiley friendly charismatic storytelling singing directly to the camera. Something2023 did extremely well too.
need to remember to get the balance right.
