The cavalry of envy has arrived!

Tomorrow we will "need" yet another plastic pop song I guess.....

You know songs like this here can be just as plastic but in a less obvious way. In the context of Eurovision, it can be difficult to find songs that aren't manufactured to please a certain group of people. I'm happy with Austria picking this song, but if we had a gazillion of them, it wouldn't make for a very fun contest. Variety is the spice of life.

So you'd say this song doesn't serve variety in Eurovision? I'd challenge that argument!

Yes, we have a sea of ballads, but most of them aren't either self-written nor sang by a male band, but by divas. So we have too many diva ballads about self-empowerment. "I am strong".

And then there are these cute lads who wrote their own song and sing "I am yours". Beautiful, timeless, classy piano song, that just works well.

Guess who's conquering hearts and who's not?

I'd say that's surprisingly "okay", since i don't care for this type of music usually, especially not in the ESC, but i can't picture this getting a good placement, nor do i think they want to or care.

You're reading my brain!

I was happy with anything winning, which was not a "diva ballad" (especially Zoe). I could even live with Folkshilfe since the chorus kind of made up for the terrible rest of the song. But I'm cool with the Makemakers, even though I'm still mourning for Dawa, they could have been my :12:. But this is also nice, could be in my top 10, not sure yet
anyways well done :at: ;)

I can't decide between Belgium, Austria and Italy for my #1. I love them all so much. This year is finally looking much better for me :)

I am happy that Eurovision exudes so much quality this year. It's really getting better. Many people complain about ballads, but so be it. Most ballads this year are really nice and well produced. And the up tempo songs are also very good and far from trashy, Belgium in particular is pure art, although I have trouble connecting with it.

Yet, how many circus acts do we count so far? I just can't recall one..... Seems like Conchita and Common Linnets have put them to rest for good.

Celina's last place was deserved... She didn't even perform her meh song that well.
She wasn't the best option indeed, but on the other hand it wasn't nice from ORF to show this swearing clip right before her act either. Tonight's choice was about someone to represent the country, and the clip made her look like she wasn't exactly the kind of representative the Austrians were looking for. It may have further hampered the little chance she had left.

Yeah, it's a bit different from the other ballads and it does have some musical quality to it. You're right as well, it's mostly diva ballads about self empowerment, conquering, overcoming and whatnot we have this year. This song here Austria are entering has it's place in the contest and can stand on it's own.

It's just you were saying though that people will be crying we need "plastic pop" tomorrow. What entries exactly were you thinking of? For Norway's selection anyway, the second favourite among fans seems to be Karin's song "Human Beings", and I think that would certainly be a very unique entry for this years contest with nothing else for it to be compared to. Sometimes a pop song can be a quality piece of music.

Actually I am calling out on Sweden, which is becoming a hate country for me. They always bring the same tunes and the same acts in this bloated song festival. I think Melodifestivalen as it is, is the reason why Sweden sounds the same every year. There is no room for diversity, new music and overcoming patterns. This year is particularly horrid because of the male acts with an all girl and all gay fanbase they can rely on even with super dull songs. I hope it's jojk tomorrow, that would be the only bold but also fantastic choice they can make.
