Everything about :au: this year feels really half-hearted, probably it wasn´t clear for a very long time if they would compete.
I wonder if they'll exit the contest in the next few years especially if they get a series of poor results.

Maybe?? Public interest down there also isn´t nearly as big as the EBU wants us to believe.
I work for an Australian company, and when I chatted with a few of my colleagues from head office in Sydney about Eurovision back in January, they replied "Are we still in that?? I thought it was just a couple of years we did it as a laugh..." - felt like a very early 2010s UK answer tbh. But certainly backs up your statement.

Weirdly our North American Sales Manager is an enormous fan and is already setting up her home to watch it live in the early hours of Sunday!

Yeah, the interest from down under I think is often greatly overstated. I can't imagine a whole lot of people wake up early for the live broadcast.

I read an interview with Osterdahl I think 2 years ago, it was more meant as to get the USA and Asia+Kiwi & Aussies to host their own continental contest and let them see that non-EUers can do it too so that they can host like a world cup in 10 years. EBU doesn't prob know that 90s and early 2000s live pop shows are still wayyyyy too popular in the Americas, Middle East and Asia to be replaced with that. Asia is still running like 10 variants of Top of The Pops. Eurovision would need to work with a prize pool to beat that.

I think the effort put in was there, the concept is just not thoroughly good. Like, the inclusion of the didgeridoo and the beginning with the rainbow projection are great moments, as well as the gorgeous backdrop, but the inclusion of the backing singers are apparently not good + Zach has been struggling with the vocals towards the end of the song…

I don’t have high hopes for qualifications anymore. The staging for this one ain’t as good as I though it would’ve been

Yeah I'm quite surprised at the staging, I really expected better - I'm not sure it's gonna create a 'moment'. I still think it might scrape through but I won't be shocked if it NQs.

I would love a few more years of guaranteed participation. I'm not even sure if next year is guaranteed 😂 If SBS even want to. I get the vibe that Paul Clarke (Australia's Creative Director) just wanted to give Electric Fields like Voyager a shot as they were both his favourites who he wanted to compete in their respective years.

Paul Clarke has been doing great, but perhaps it’s time for some new fresh blood in Australia’s participation going forward from now on

Middle-of-the-road and kind of annoying. 4 points.

I am sorry to say this, but I ended up laughing at the vocal runs at the end when watching the jury performance. The lead singer started off fine, but not sure what went wrong towards the end. The staging is fine for what it is but the other countries brought their A-game to some medicore songs, so Australia's staging looks pale in comparison. Maybe it will sneak through given the late running spot in a weaker semi.
