I wanna be close to my mother
I wanna belong to the world
A mirror that shows technicolor
I'd be a magnificent girl

But everything is frustrating
Everything moves along
Faster than I can relate to

But I got power, yeah
Midnight is the hour, yeah
Time to take off your cloaks

Techni-technicolour
Techni-technicolour
If we stand together
We can do whatever
Techni-technicolour
Techni-technicolour
If we care for one another
We can

I wanna know that there's a future
That I can move myself towards
And yet I promise you
Yes all you nasty dudes
I don't need certainty
To get my pot of gold

Everything is frustrating
Everything moves along
Faster than I can relate to

But we got grace, yeah
We got style and lasers, yeah
Time to take off your cloaks

Techni-technicolour
Techni-technicolour
If we stand together
We can do whatever
Techni-technicolour
Techni-technicolour
If we care for one another
We can

Shine
Shine
Shine
Shine

Techni-technicolour
Techni-technicolour
If we stand together
We can do whatever
Techni-technicolour
Techni-technicolour
If we care for one another
We can

Me and my friends were watching the Mardi Gras parade on the TV at a restaurant and when Montaigne performed all of us were um....very weirded out. Maybe it was the combination of song + vocals + choreography but all of us felt honestly a bit embarrassed for her. It just didn’t work, I’m really hoping that she’ll be able to improve in time for Eurovision, because if that’s how Aussies feel towards her performance then Europeans aren’t going to appreciate it at all.

A true bop. Great song from Montaigne.

Heard she was not doing well on the Mardi Gras performance, but I'm sure those issues will be fixed by ESC. Should hopefully do great!

vocal quality isn't either. OMG! There's a LOT to do until may! The song is not bad, but she should look for strong backing vocalists!
It's a very challenging song to sing though! But yeah, I believe it will sound & look much better in Rotterdam. It is my joined favourite entry so far! Together with France and Lithuania.

That is surely true. The question is: why choose such a difficult song when you clearly are not (yet?) on the level to sing it? I wish her luck though.

It depends though. I feel that the song is still very well supported by the general ESC fandom.

The Mardi Gras performance seems a pretty amateurish though. The whole staging of it. I'm not a fan of her look too. But I'm pretty sure this won't be her final staging and look so I'm keeping an open mind.

I believe the biggest challenge for her is her ability to sing without sounding strained or exhausted. Because I felt so exhausted after listening to her sing and that's not a good feeling.

I'm pretty sure the Eurovision performance will sound a lot better. The prerecorded backing vocals for one will help. They just need to take note of where she's struggling vocally and ramp up the assistance where it's needed. Correct me if I'm wrong here but I'm pretty sure that artists are even allowed their own vocals as their backing? I recall Aksel saying he was most excited about this at Eurovision as he's a one man choir or something.

Yeah, people shouldn't read too much into that live performance at Mardi Gras since it's clear that Montaigne will have far more technology and "support" available on an indoor arena setting than she did on a tiny stage in a windy sports stadium.

The first live vocal performance of a song is often a shaky affair - I have no doubt at all that SBS and Montaigne herself (who seems very proactive and involved in her own direction) will have plenty of ideas about how things can be improved.

My dog just gave me the death stare when I played her Technicolour, but I guess she is into it now. Wagging the tail when I am strutting to the beat of tekni tekni kalla

Aw... Don't Break Me still rocks my night time feels™ playlist and was one of my favourites last year, Technicolour isn't as accessible to me sadly, especially the chorus (which was also the case with Don't Break Me, funnily enough... but the strophes were such a big win).

Alright, so this is pretty much what i expected. Can't help compare it to "Don't Break Me" which was the most underrated song of 2020 IMO and this is much less serious, sillier and lightweight. That kinda disappoints me but there's a lot of creativity to it, and i can still see this becoming a great performance and another top 10 placement for Australia.

If she was nervous and that affected her vocals, and if she lost her voice because she gave too much in the rehearsals, that's obviously gonna be a problem for Eurovision, no? This can go both ways...

Not sure I know how to feel about this. I love the big Marina and the Diamonds vibes, I think its kinda catchy, but then it also starts being a bit irritating, with all the looong high notes and screaming etc. If they tone it down, I think I would be able to give an 8, for now its a 6.

I like many parts of the song, especially the beginning and how it's building to the first chorus but then the chorus.... It's just a NO from me there. So hm, :6: points for now.

I think the main issue for me, especially in the chorus, is the fact that the bass isn't as prominent in the mix as I might hope. They should either have the bass moving a little more during the chorus (like to mirror what the synth stabs are doing) or they should turn the volume up on the bass during the choruses before the key change - after the key change, with the higher bass notes, the problem isn't as severe.

The verses and bridges don't have the same issue thanks to the guitar picks acting as a back-up bass pattern that helps to drive the song along. But hey, just my two cents worth xshrug

On another note, anyone have any idea when we'll get the music video? I have a feeling the Eurovision YouTube channel is holding off adding it because it's just a promo art audio video that's been released, but I'm wanting Montaigne on the official YouTube channel to grab some more views. Just like how I'm wanting all of the chosen songs on Spotify (thankfully not a Montaigne issue... :al: and :rs: need to step it up already!)

That's the problem for me when I listen to the songs from some Indie artists. The production is not tight and very random and usually tend to create an abrupt chorus with some underwhelming bass drop to surprise people. Her team really needs to ace the staging with this part or people will find it extremely inconsistent with the verse.

I am ready for 10 points now, soon to be 12, watch out y'all. I think her Samedi Gras performance was lit, her live vocals are insane!

So in 2020, I loved Dont Break Me and I like Monatigne. She has a very strong voice and has so much quality. However, I am not really a big fan of this entry. Her voice is amazing, it`s more the production of the song itself I don`t really love. It seems a bit messy in my ears. Sorry Australia, I love you both it will only be :2: points from me this year. xrose
