Re: AUSTRALIA 2018 - Jessica Mauboy - #We Got Love

What do you mean with that statement? That vocals are not as important as the music in this case? If so, I think it is exactly a song that demands strong vocals. With weak vocals, she can forget the finals.
I mean you don't need to have very powerful vocals for this song, this one is quite easy to sing compared to for example :az: of course she won't qualify with bad vocals, I just pointed out she is doing fine even if she is not the best live singer as some say. (because of her :dk: 2014 performance)

I thought the title doesn't use the hashtag anymore?

About a month ago I said that Australia and Spain are my favorites, in a kind of draw, and as of now, after the show in Israel, Australia is completely in my first place by a relatively large margin

I wish they hadn't reworked the Spanish one, I preferred the more intimate earlier version.

For me, this is the quintessence of the generic song and I dislike Australian entry. It's likely to finish high though.

I don't understand the hype about this song. Just bland boring. Better than Isaiah though, but still one of their more boring entries. 2015 and 2016 were miles better.

In my opinion it deserves a place int he final but not in top 10!

Same! :D Maybe around 15th place! It is doing very well in OGAE voting, 3rd or 4th, in front of Bulgaria, Greece, and other far better songs. :D:?

Maybe is the dark horse!

Fans love it and many people think it IS possible winner (even more possible than France and Bulgaria) :D It would be one of the most bland winners, but ok.

This is going to place high. Top 10 for sure and maybe top 5. That said, I can't understand what is so wonderful about this song. Personally, I think this is one of the most generic pop songs I've ever listened. It has nothing, I can't even remember how it sounds now. For some reason (and I love Australia, don't get me wrong) this happens to me with all the Australian entries so far: all of them are generic pop songs with nothing special or even memorable. Yeah, all of the singers were fantastic vocalists and none of the songs were bad, but they're just bland. Even the overhyped Dami Im had a boring song and placed second! I just don't understand what happens with Australian songs. Australia, you're becoming the new Sweden xhand

I agree, but the main difference is that at least Swedish entries in general have some modern rhytm and could catch you ( 2017, 2018), those Australian songs are just flat and boring, it could easily pass by me. I don't have nothing against generic here, but I have lot against being boring. :D GENERIC+BORING-worst combination in music ever.

Australia's sending ballads and pop songs to this competition, what more can you ask for
i don't give a damn whether they are generic or not, I find all of their entries really strong

Jessica and We Got Love will finish top 5 for sure

It doesn't matter if a song is generic or not. There are generic songs that still can be called wonderful and beautiful. They have to be made interesting though so that you can connect in some way to the song - musically and lyrically. And it's a subjective thing. I cannot connect to Jessica's song. But it's okay when others can. ;) Australia is still better than the other Jessika ... from San Marino.

Yeah, I may have used the wrong words to explain my feelings about Jessica's song. I like Jessica, she's a fantastic vocalist and a good performer. Her vocals have been on point in all her lives! My issue is more with the song. You're right, it doesn't matter that a song is generic if the public can connect with it. There are some songs that I cannot connect with but I can recognize their value because they're original, unique, masterpieces.... whatever you want. I don't like the Estonian entry this year and I feel unable to connect with it, but I understand why some people absolutely adore it. The same with Bulgaria, The Netherlands... etc. .

With Australian entries, I just don't understand why they place so high. The songs are, apart from generic, boring and uninteresting for me. And, as lolita said, there's nothing worse than a generic + boring song (at least for me) I guess it's just a matter of taste :D
