Wait they're writing a brand new song? :? I will be surprised if it's anything brilliant unless they've already been working on it a while.

Little disappointed that the UK equivalent of an X Factor reject is representing them - was hoping for Dannii Minogue

X Factor reject? Not only did he won the first Australian Idol, he was also an actual judge on X Factor Australia already  He is also the only male artist in Australia to get 6 singles as #1!
You really don't know what you're talking about

Very true Daniel Luis - Guy Sebastian is very successful in his own country and is making a name for himself in the USA where he sold 1.5 million copies of his song BATTLE SCARS with Lupe Fiasco in the USA.

Guy is not known as well in Europe and that is why it is exciting for Australia that Eurovision invited us to compete in this "one off year" wild card year.

We know he will not win but because we are one of the biggest viewing countries of Eurovision over the years - it is exciting for us to know we have an Australian contestant competing this year for our Eurovision parties.

Battle Scars is a very good song, and he performs it so well live. I think vocally he is very strong. He will have the image, the freshness of Australia competing and all the hype around him. If he has a good song, I actually think Australia could get a decent position. It'll certainly be interesting. Or he will just be a major flop

yep Guy's voice is pitch perfect and very powerful however the risky bit of course for every country competing is the right choice of song. As a guest country this year it would be great if we got into the Top 10 at least. :)

Top 10 isn't that easy for most places, maybe even more so without performing in the semi.

Thanks Musicfan :) I did actually think about that - can you tell me how it works - I am asking because I dont know?

Australia has a wild card into the Finals - does this mean that Guy does not have to perform in the semi finals and therefore has less exposure in the overall competition and countries may have already made up their minds going into the Grand Final?

Usually the host country and the Big 5 (Italy, UK, Germany, France, Spain) auto-qualify, and this year we're joining that as the guest country - so yes, Guy won't perform until the finals. You're right in that having people hear your country's song twice is usually considered better for getting votes. That said, though, songs that go directly to the final can still do well - Germany won in 2010 without taking part in the semis, Italy was second in 2011, there've been plenty of top 10 places from Big 5 countries, and Italy is the big favourite to win this year despite not being in the semis. So while it can hurt a song's chances, it doesn't seem to be a huge factor.

Normally the 'Big 5' are near the bottom of the scoring. Lena's song had plenty of publicity before the contest I think as it was already a huge hit with people (I don't understand why, but that's another subject). The Juries seem to like Italy whatever they send and that gets them higher up the scoreboard.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2015 - Guy Sebastian

The juries usually like Italy because Italy usually sends classy songs and give a good performance. They didn't last year, and so they flopped.

I'd imagine Italy will do decently with both the jury and televoters this year - and, to bring this back to the topic, I think they'll do particularly well in Australia. We've got the diaspora here, and Australian Eurovision fans seem to quite like the song. I've been running a poll of Australian fans on a Facebook fan club, and while it's still at a small sample size (about 10-15 voters per week at the moment), Italy is a clear favourite, going back and forth between first and second place (with Estonia) while far ahead of third.
