Re: ARMENIA 2015 - Genealogy - Don't Deny
I'm sorry if I offend someone but I believe that Armenia can pay homage to their 1915 Genocide in so many occasions for so many times, but I don't think it's reasonable to put a song reflecting this history incident in the stage of Eurovision Song Contest. ESC is a stage where people get united and enjoy themselves, rather than history class or some kind.
Chinese people, like Armenian people, also suffered from humiliation and massacres throughout our history, most notably the Nanjing Massacre in 1937 which, as part of WW2 and Japanese invasion in China, more than 300,000 Nanjing city residents were killed in no more than several days, and this fact has never been recognized by Japanese authority. However, tons of Sino-Japanese cultural exchange events are held almost every year, including the so-called "Red-White Song Contest". Songs about WW2 and Nanjing Massacre were never presented in these occasions, nor have we seen any song conmemorating Nanjing Massacre in ATSF stage where both China and Japan participate and send representatives.
I find Armenian songs very interesting and I like them, even their patriotic songs. The videos of the songs are so professionally-made, like Sofi Mkheyan's Hayastan Erge and Inga Anush's Hay Hay, they even make me, a person with no Armenian blood and has never travelled to Armenia, feel so moved that I believe if I were Armenian, I'd also be proud of my nationality just as proud as I feel of being a Chinese now.
But, it just is not the right time or right stage to trigger all these controversies, even less if it will be arranged so seriously as the public speculated. I wish that the song is called Don't Deny but is no more than a love song.
