The postcards of this year's Eurovision Song Contest will be different compared to previous editions. This year's Host Broadcaster SVT want wants to use the films to present each artist instead.

Five teams with director, photographer and technical coordinator have started trips to Europe to meet with each artist. So far, the team has visited Iceland and their artist and on Thursday they're traveling to France and then to Italy.

"We will welcome all countries viewers and make them feel involved with the programs. In a way, we extend a hand to Europe - where viewers get to see "their" artist portrayed in their own country," says Sven Stojanovic, Creative Director and co-producer of the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.
"We want the programs to constantly move back and forth, from Malmö to Europe, and back to Malmö," he adds.
[h=2]The best companies involved[/h]After allowing several companies to pitch to produce the postcards, SVT chose Camp David. It's a film production company representing a number of talented directors who have won numerous awards at commercial festivals like Cannes Lions, Clio, Eurobest and Swedish Golden Egg.
"We have chosen a company that is best in the short narrative form, where you have 30 seconds to convey a message while dressed in a stylish package. Camp David has the ideas, experience and commitment needed to do something new and especially of the postcards," Stojanovic explains.
One of the most prominent companies in the visual effects in Scandinavia, Swiss International AB will be responsible for all 3D graphics in the movies. The company is the most awarded in the category of animation and visual effects in commercials.
SVT has also signed a deal with Broken Doll for all television graphics for the contest this year. They won numerous international awards for promotion, branding and design of video content
The company will be responsible for all the graphics in the box during the broadcasts, from nameplates and scoreboards for intros and bumpers. They will also design the butterflies for each country, Swiss will then animate those.
"SVT has worked with Broken Doll on several occasions. We have great confidence in them. They always have a good and clear vision, while they are both responsive and talented designers with high delivery reliability," Sven Stojanovic explains.

And the "Melodifestivalization" of ESC continues

Well, I don't remember when the acts were last used in the postcards... in the 90's or something? And of course SVT empathize on everything BUT showing Sweden.

But, the fact that there will be animations and 3D-effects involved sounds a bit promising atleast, the last thing we want is MF type of "artist postcards" that are a total bore.

It could be good, we'll see.

One of the few good things SVT has done for ESC. I've always wanted this back...gives the audience the chance to make a connection with the acts.

Artist poscarts... wasn't it like that in 2003, or just I'm remembering wrong?
Idea looks cool imo.

I think it would be cool to see a type of introduction filmed with the artist being at some significant landmark or such in Malmö and the general surrounding area. In that way you could present both the artist and the host city/country at the same time. :)

There's just so much you can show from Malmö though in 39 postcards (if the aim from SVT is not to show the ugly bloc houses though...). If they'd show from whole Skåne region then it could work though.

Well by general surrounding area I did mean the Skåne region (or at least the southernmost parts). Ale stenar and other such landmarks would probably work well on tv.

I hope they'll be done in an original and interesting format, and not just some kind of visual nonsense about my home, my family, my friends. Really I'm just looking forward to the moving graphic design i.e. the butterflies!

I would have loved to see a postcard of Nina Zilli, last year!
But I'm really looking forward for Margaret Berger's postcard. :D

That'd be cool, but seems it won't be happening. I do hope though this won't just be "all is good except for Sweden" type of showing- off, but atleast a balance between the "We are one" and "welcome to Sweden - this is what makes us good" type of...

I'm literary gonna throw something on the TV if any of the opening or middle acts includes rapping, break-dancing or oriental music... which really is my biggest fear with SVT these days.

Whatever the interval/opening is, I have a feeling that SVT will do something interesting for it rather whatever rubbish ARD tried to make us watch 2 years ago. Also I doubt Daniel Westling/Christopher O'Neill/Gustaf Reinfeldt will perform his debut single at the final, thankfully.

That is going to be epic, I hope! :D
Anyway, I do prefer the postcards that show the hosting country. I remember I liked it a lot when I was a kid, 2004-2006 or something.

Hey, there's nothing at all wrong with rap as long as it's Swedish! :D

American rap music may be awful and it annoys the hell out of me, but the sound of Swedish rappers like Timbuktu, Movits!, Petter, etc. is just fantastic in my opinion.

I cannot WAIT to see Valentina's postcard. Here is a little taster of what we are in for I imagine..

*true story - I know Valentina's words from that video by heart*

"THISISMYWORKINGROOM!!!!!!.... Where I speND MOOOOST of my time.. but.. I.. can't have you all HERE. SO! Join me on Faaaacebook." xbow

We must visit Valentina's house again in the postcard!!! This is the best thing Sweden has done in terms of messing with the contest. I like.

If there's anything that should have never left the USA musically it's rapping...

xpuke

The only European country which is able to make somewhat trustworthy rap music is France, the rest just comes across as borderline ridiculous or directly laughable... even the UK (a native English speaking country which is closer to the US in many ways) aren't able to either.

USA will remain the only country that imo produces credible good Hip-Hop music (and no I don't mean stuff like Flo Rida or Pittbull )
