I suppose I'm the only one who thinks that they maybe withdraw because of.........political reasons?
Doubtful. Hopefully the whole situation will die down at least a little bit by the time countries confirm their participation
They should save time and money this year and just send Jamala with a powerful ballad in Ukrainian.
Because, honestly, now is not the time for Kazzaky, The Hardkiss, or even Max Barskih, unless he can come up with another Nebo.
Ukraine needs to step up their game.
Illaria would be a good choice, imo she was kinda robbed in the 2014 selection.

Well, they finished #3 and #6 the last two years. How much better could they have done? Aside from Gaitana's disappointing result, they've made the top ten in the last four out of five years. Also pretty good. So not sure how much game stepping up they can do.
As for Illaria, it's not a give that she would've done better than Mariya. Ultimately, I think they made the right choice last year between the two. Maybe Illaria can try again this year if they have a NF.
I'm not talking results here though, but I'm judging the music from my perspective. Tick Tock was rather mediocre compared to most Ukrainian ballads, Zlata did her song a great favor for just being Zlata but the song itself is also a bit step down imo from the golden years of Ukraine in ESC.
Jamala wouldn't be my first choice, but I'm all for a (folky) power Ukrainian ballad... and have been wishing for that for a while now.
