my hometown:
Derry (or Londonderry)
Located on the north coast of Ireland.
Population of about 100,000
It is called Derry by the Catholic community
It is called Londonderry by the Protestant community
It is called Doire in the Irish language.
It has large Eastern European, Chinese, Filipino and Nigerian communities.
It was founded by St Columba in the the 6th century AD.
It suffered terribly during the Troubles (the period of ethnic-religious conflict in Northern Ireland since the 1960s http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_troubles ) and there still are deep scars from the Troubles visible.
It is very historic. Landmarks include:
Free Derry Corner - an area of the city where the residents took control from the British Army in 1969, which was the event that started the Troubles
The City Walls - built in the 17th century and survived a 105-day siege and one of the few city walls in Europe still completely intact.
and the World's Oldest Department Store
And it is the 2013 UK City of Culture. Can't wait until then

I've always liked the look of Londonderry/Derry and its history is fantastic! (although tinged by sadness ).
We did a Geography exam in January about Northern Ireland and an ex-soldier came to talk to us - he was deployed their and he told us stories about his time there.

Novi Sad is the capital of the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina, and the administrative centre of the South Bačka District. The city is located in the southern part of Pannonian Plain on the Danube river.
The city was founded in 1694, when Serb merchants formed a colony across the Danube from the Petrovaradin fortress, Habsburg strategic military post. In 18th and 19th centuries, it became an important merchant and manufacturing centre, as well as a centre of Serbian culture of that period, earning the nickname Serbian Athens. City was heavily devastated in the 1848 Revolution, but it was subsequently restored
Novi Sad has a moderate continental climate, with four seasons. Autumn is longer than spring, with long sunny and warm periods. Winter is not so severe, with an average of 22 days of complete sub-zero temperature.

The number of tourists visiting Novi Sad each year has steadily risen since 2000. Every year, in the beginning of July, during the annual EXIT music festival, the city is full of young people from all over Europe. In 2005, over 150,000 people visited the festival, which put Novi Sad on the map of summer festivals in Europe. Besides EXIT festival, Novi Sad Fair attract many business people into the city; in May, the city is home to the biggest agricultural show in the region, which 600,000 people visited in 2005.There is also a tourist port near Varadin Bridge in the city centre welcoming various river cruise vessels from across Europe who cruise on Danube river.

I really want to visit all the ex-Yugoslavian countries. They all seem really beautiful. I've only been to Slovenia (out of the ex-Yugoslav nations).

In summer it's like living in the Northern Europe... but with sun :twisted: Full of British/Germans/Dutch... I speak everything but Spanish/Catalan.
