But we should still play as something, don't you think? Rather than just "song 1, song 2, etc". This is what we do in these contests. We send a song from a country or region and we then vote as that country or region.

We didn't in the edition before the one i just hosted when Steph hosted, it was just the songs.

We didn't in the edition before the one i just hosted when Steph hosted, it was just the songs.

It was a special case as the theme was collaborations from different countries. The special case was also karaoke or 'blind spin-off' before.
This is more similar to years randomiser or other themes where we had countries and regions.

yes but people chose multiple countries so several people had a song from the UK and Germany, for example. We voted using the song title, not the actual countries.

I don't see how we can't just be represented by our letter? That's what I had in my head anyway when I came up with the spinoff idea. The focus here isn't on the country but the letter.

It's not a problem per say. It's fine to make exceptions for special spin-offs, and I can see how this particular spin-off could be such. I'm OK with playing as Q.

I just hope it doesn't become a thing where the standard format for these spin-offs is discarded henceforth. I can understand if it seems trivial and unimportant to you newbies, but to some of us who have been playing these contests for three years now (and who were a part of their inception) it matters. Most contests have a set format they follow, WV and the spin-offs are no exception.

I can understand what you're saying Anna and you have been playing it for so long. Things do get set in a routine. I'm glad you can see how being represented as letters for this edition could work. I'm sure this standard format thing you've got going on isn't going to be discarded. This is a special case where it works to ditch the countries. I appreciate that we're new to this and you've been playing it for the past 3 years, but are there rules written down anywhere for us to read regarding how to run the spinoff? I honestly can't see how being represented by letters for this one edition of the game would have a negative effect on the future editions. I'm sure it will all be fine. No one is trying to change anything here. We're just trying to do what seems right for the theme. Countries just take the focus away from the letters I feel. Don't worry. It's most probably a one off case that shan't come again anytime soon unless it's another theme that really fits something different.
