On the night of the 20th March, Spring Equinox is celebrated all over the country of Pyreica. From the canoe descent of the Lheù River with a burning doll to the Ginger Parade in Terruva, hundreds of traditions take place each year to welcome the new season.
Among them, the Star Festival - Fextívalè ed Estellís in Pyreican - is certainly the most popular.
The Star Festival has been celebrated since 1857 on top of the Soùm Miralh, in the eastern part of the country. Initially, the researchers of the renowned observatory, and their families who stayed in the valley, celebrated the end of their 5-months shift with a small concert. Since the opening of the observatory to the public in 1999, it gained an international reputation, and the small concert became a full-blown music festival that spans for over a week.
Due to the nature of the Pyreican sky that is purer than its neighbors, the country became a reference in terms of astrophysics. Thus, to preserve this precious quality, all lights have to be shut down at the sunset. In consequence, the festival only lasts during sun time, with the exception of the first night where spectators can enjoy the music in the total dark until 21th March, 5:42, when the sun rises again.
After winning the last edition, the head of our WLSC delegation decided to host the upcoming contest in parallel to the festival. Countries from all over the world are welcome to send their entry and attend Natia's highest concert at 3321m !
