From my perspective as a straight male Eurovision fan, I don't care what the singers sexuality is, I just support the songs I enjoy listening to the most. Incidentally, we've had at least three LGBT winners, but still only one black winner!

What is the difference between a travestie winner and a open gay men? Is Tom not openly gay? Or is the fact, that he is in drag diminishing the fact, that he is a man?

Oh dear Lord what a topic

But 3 far the best gay singers in last few editions are Páll Schou from Denmark (2011), Harel Skaat from Israel (2010) and of course Oscar Loya from Germany (2009)

I think i'm going to write a song and send it to the BBC for their UK selection process.

The song will be about my everyday struggles as a very masc gay man who's tired of negative stereotypes and OGAE. I smash a repetitive chord on my piano for 2:30 until a sudden, ironic explosion of schlager, I rip off my stained white vest and builders jacket to reveal a shimmering silver gown. In the final moments of the song I proclaim that OGAE are all very bad gays for dropping their Valentina Monetta support when she sung "Maybe" and how they should all hang their queer heads in shame. I finally finish the song by holding up a rainbow flag which I set fire to whilst AshleyWright and Mrm who just so happen to be my backing dancers, hoist up a Sammarinese flag behind me, before carrying the golden throne i'm sitting in off the stage.

Then you will have a masculine gay win the contest.

Harel and Oscar were great. I really loved both of them at the time they were competing. It's such a shame Harel messed up big time on his main televised performance. Who knows how it could have gone for him had he not?

I don't know why the BBC have never hired you to write a song or design the staging before. xheat Brilliant idea. My vocal skills aren't great but with such good staging and what will obviously be an iconic song and fan favourite, my bad backing vocals wont matter when every country gives us 12 points.

I've said it before, i'll say it again. The BBC simply have no interest in winning. They don't want my avant-garde ideas.

I shall send you details of my full vision for this song and performance soon. I'd like someone to randomly blow a boatswain whistle for the first two and a half minutes of the song and I think you may just be that person. There will also be press protocol you'll have to follow. We are portraying a masculine imagine so no talk of your love of Loreen and Pirates when I allow you to be interviewed. You may however express your love of masc icon, Doris Dragovic.

Not all the Gay singers loves act like Conchita, Tom (his real gay personality) just use her Female character to get famous, but i doubt all the gay singers wants to act like him just for get attention at ESC. Its not for offending him, but as a gay man who i am, i would like to act as such and as i am, not wearing makeup or dress and heels to highlight. ;):D

Eldar is gay, right? Okay, maybe not out....

I can see there is some misunderstanding between the definition of gay, transvestite and drag. I'm glad people already clarified so I don't have to go into that.

And let's also be clear on the gay festival aspect. I understand what Sabiondo is trying to say. I think it is a fair statement that the die hard Eurovision fans tend to be gay though I don't have any statistics or data to back that claim up and it's an educated guess.
But the contest as a whole is not gay at all. The casual viewer come from all different walk of lives and they do not consider the contest gay in any shape or form. Yes, the Scandinavian countries for the first time acknowledged the existence of gay fans aka Dancing Queens ;) but that is as far it went.

In regards to having a gay and masculine winner....to me the term masculine is subjective. For instance, people think of Europeans in general as effeminate and pretty gay. Americans have this set definition of masculinity by being really butch, watch football, play man sports, burp a lot etc. In France, they may look at masculinity in a totally different way.

That roll sounds perfect for me. I'll start practicing right now. I'll also start rehearsing my lines for the rare occasion I'm allowed to be interviewed.

agreed! but the fact, that you don't like drag acts, does not reduce neither toms gayness nor his manhood.
