Every year since 2005, one of the favorites of the western European countries to win ESC has failed in the Eurovision Song Contest.

2005: Iceland
2006: Belgium
2007: Switzerland
2008: Sweden (passed through jury and failed in final)
2009: Finland (passed through jury and failed in final)

Which of the western-european favorites will be flop this year, do you think? :)

I hope it's Germany. Even though It's quite good but it was overrated so much. Plus, reactions of fans all changed after the raising of betting odds how cool  and i believe with all my heart another one is gonna be Denmark. There's nothing so special with that song and it's a hot candidate for being 2010's 'Waldo's People'. :D

Interesting thoughts here :D .....

I am on the same line as you all:

Germany, is extremly high up in the odds, which is of course very weird, since it is doesn't sound like a normal ESC-song. I would love to see it do well, but I think it is dangerous that it is so high up in the odds.

Denmark is an another one that could fail. 5th in the odds at the moment, a real Eurovision entry, not too much unlike the Olsen Brothers in 2000, but still very old-fashioned and could be saved by the jury in the semi, but could be like 20th in the final, when the juries has other favorites.

Ireland, with former winner Niamh Kavangh is of course a contender, having 13th place in the odds. Still, this may be too long down to see it as a BIG flop, so maybe Denmark and Germany is the ones I put my bet on in Oslo! :)

Armenia, Croatia, Denmark & Serbia will not win the contest and will not be very high if they pass to the final. These are mine thoughts though.

Ireland won't do well because of how many ballads are competing: I think that the Eastern Countries will ignore her entry because of this.

Germany will do well though I believe because it is really different. Remember last year? I would hardly call A. Rybak's entry a 'normal' ESC song.

I don't think Germany will be flop in that sense that they'll end up at the bottom. I have a feeling they'll be Top 10 though they certainly are not really winner material. But just because they won't win doesn't mean they flopped.

I think France, Spain & Sweden should be concerned as I think they may end up at the actual bottom this year.

I agree with Matt, actually I can see Germany finishing in top 10, but I'm pretty sure that won't win. Of course this doesn't mean it will flop.

I have a feeling that France will end in the bottom :( I like the song a lot, but I can't see it doing very well, especially imagining how it will sound in live version. Spain and Belgium could also flop.

I think one of the ballads are going to flop... Sweden, possibly (ughh I don't want that to happen, but they're not doing ANYTHING to win over here! Nothing at all, it bothers me!)

I also think it's going to be tough for Norway and Ireland... but we'll see... I hope I'm wrong, cause these three are my favorites... haha!

Ireland could easily pull a Israel 2009 (Top 10 for Juries, last place for televoters ;) )

My thoughts exactly. I think the jury will definitely protect Niamh Kavanagh, since she happens to be a former winner of ESC. To tell you the truth I don't understand what's Niamh doing in the ESC in the first place.
