Hi i'm not british and i don't know so much british newspaper but from what i know, "The Sun" is not supposed to be a "people" newspaper promoting a lot of fake news ? I know them especially since i'm a football fan and they often say fake rumors about some players and transfers so i don't know about Eurovision. Maybe it's a also fake news about Mae Muller i dont know ?

I think people are probably being a tad dramatic about Mae, they're not serving up Surie, James Newman or EV. TBH people 2 years ago would have probably screamed with excitement at this selection - female pop hit.

What i will say though at same time I'm honestly shocked both BBC and TaP have allowed all the speculation, hype and drama around Rina to grow so spectacularly out of control. Considering TaP are supposed to be some of the best in the industry at PR and such this feels like such a massive flop on their part. I know there was random radio times article, but that was hardly anything. They should have killed that rumour ASAP especially as it grew wild.

The sun is trash paper, and ironically people in Liverpool actively boycott the paper for their coverage of the Hillsborough incident. I'd have said not to trust it, but when an article from the Mirror saying the same thing goes live at the same time its kinda hard to miss.

I'm going to be totally real: I don't understand why everyone thinks that Rina would be the better choice.

I have put on I just came to dance and it got me dancing about my flat.. So I let myself have hope. I will support our act anyway and be kind to Mae if this is not a weird spoof and she is our act. But I still can’t help feeling it’s an odd choice. I am not sure what would beat Sweden anyways.

Yeah, this is basically what I expected lol. Mae Muller is a BBC choice all over. Rina always seemed like wishful thinking sadly.

That said, I don't think it's going to do as badly as some are saying...

I just heard the snippet for "I wrote a song" and I love it. It doesn't sound like a bottom 5 entry to me.

Well, depends on who you ask. The sun is politically right, and the Mirror left. Typically newspapers are trash pieces in this country. One newspaper posting it randomly, it can be questioned - 2, at the same time from opposing political, social, cultural, reader positions, seems like the media were breifed beforehand to get their articles ready and 2 of them have posted the stories ahead of time.

I feel it is worth pointing out that (whilst I do feel that the report is ultimately true):

1) The Mirror reporting on what The Sun posted doesn't mean it is true as, given the nature of online journalism, sites will happily repeat one another's articles (with a few amendments to avoid plagiarism) just so they get clicks regardless of if they themselves have any additional sources or not.

2) The source the Sun quotes doesn't even mention Muller by name let alone the song she is supposed to be doing. If it were legit why wouldn't they mention her? They are anonymous, there is nothing to worry about and even just saying "We can't wait to see what Mae can do!" wouldn't out them.

3) They may just be reporting on the rumours and making it sound like they have a source to pad things out. Most of the article doesn't talk about the song and talks about almost anything else about her and the song. Again, to fill time.

4) I could have sworn we had something similar last year where some sites/papers were reporting on it being someone else only for it to be revealed to be Ryder.

Again, something in my gut tells me it is her. But remember, nothing is confirmed until it is confirmed.

Also "I Wrote A Song" is a terrible song title. It's like what a 10 year old girl would call their first song they've ever written.

Oh, and another thing, The Mirror article doesn't name a source. Their only justification for it being her is:

"It's understood that she's been selected to represent the nation at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest"

Sure, they won't name a confidential source, but they don't even suggest who their source is or where they got the information from. Just that "It's understood". Nothing else. Make of that what you will.

The snippet of Mae's song sounds really generic.

So the Sun was right then I guess.

Guys I am tired

This speculation, red herring day is stressing me out

I think the options at play all have their pros and cons

If it's Mae, let's hope the production can bring it up, the song is averaging but it could attract some votes if she provides a good performance

I have Brooke Scullion vibes from her i don't know why but with a much better and much more competitive entry potentially.
