After two listenings, the chorus is still positively unhummable. I'm usually good at humming, but this is not memorable at all, which is weird since the song is all sugar coated and bubblegum:ish. It kinda reminds me of "Last christmas" by Wham, but less catchy. Still, it's better than many of the other songs this year so I'm willing to give it 4 pts...

UK viewing figures, BIG disappointing night for ESC, i guess the country didn't really care? Could be due to the very confusing and secretive selection process.

2010 - 2,920,000
2009 - 5.600,000
2008 - 5,000,000 (Result show - 5,000,000)
2007 - 5,200,000 (Result show - 5,700,000)
2006 - 4,300,000 (Result show - 6,700,000)
2005 - 4,900,000 (Result show - 7,200,000)
2004 - 4,700,000 (Result show - 6,900,000)
2003 - 2,000,000
2002 - Under 4,800,000
2001 - Under 5,700,000
2000 - Under 6,200,000
1999 - Under 6,400,000

but seriously it's a friday? who watches TV on a friday night... I only watched because of YCNY i never would otherwise. 2003 and 2010 the National Final has not been on a saturday, prove much? the country may not care but having a NF on a friday is pretty much pointless

Friday night saw the United Kingdom's representative, Josh Dubovie, being selected, and the song That sounds good to me was premiered, the song was written by Pete Waterman and Mike Stock, a duo which had received much success in the past.
Mike Stock the co-writer of the United Kingdom's song in this years Eurovision Song Contest has announced that the version of that sounds good to me which was performed on Your Country Needs You, on Friday night, is not the version which will represent the nation in Oslo, in May. The song is to be completely revamped to suit Josh's voice. Stock has stated that he is "now busy getting together the final version which will be significantly different from what has already been served up." As well as testing numerous styles includinig a version with just a piano accompaniment.

Stock has stated that he has taken into consideration the views and comments of people with regards to the original version of the UK's entry in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest and will keep this in mind when creating the new version of That sounds good to me.

Eh.....back to the "old" days :(

Bad entry. I heard it at least 5 times, and still can't remember a thing. I guess it will score the bottom 5 again.

I was always fascinated by the fact UK has one of the best music scenes of the world but they (almost) always send some crap to ESC. This song is cliché and so 2000 and late

+10000. I still wonder about that. I can understand that famous singers don't want to go there, but the industry is so huge, so something decent would be expected every year and the result is..."this"... :?
Anyway I hope for the changes. This will need a lot of them not to end last :?

They need to do with this song what they did with Ukraine 2006 when "I am your queen" became "Show me your love". The lyrics and the music need a complete overhaul if this is going to have any chance.

I've never been made so angry by a Eurovision selection show. The first round of cover versions was like stepping into a time warp. I could tell the song itself was going to be bad and it duly lived up to my expectations. I honestly think that Josh was the worst of three finalists - or at least, he did my least favourite version of the song - but one couldn't hit the high note and the other forgot her words, so Josh won by default.

I had naively started to think, having had success with Andrew Lloyd Webber last year, a name artist might be tempted to represent us, but this year's effort looks likely to undo all the good work from 2009.

You have to understand that whenever Eurovision is mentioned over here, the default response is "that's a load of crap" and TV clips of hilarious foreigners in funny outfits ensue. While there is some truth to that - Gipsy.cz springs to mind - obviously, there's more to Eurovision than that. But when British music industry execs think of placing their act in Eurovision their first thought is "what if we lose to a guy in a cape?" The risk outweighs the potential reward.

good post and i agree with everything that you said. It's most of Western Europe that is sharing the same kind of attitude when it comes to the song contest. So I really hope that over the next few years and the fact that jurys are back opinions will change and "better" acts are willing to take a shot at the contest.
I mean look at ALW and Jade's song last year. Even if you don't like the song you have to admit it was something we didn't expect to see at Eurovision and it did very well.

Unfortunately I think this year's song is a step backwards but there is still hope the new arrangement won't be as bad. Good luck UK!

The BBC at least made an effort last year and generated some interest in ESC once again by putting the selection show on a Saturday night over 4 weeks. Then Jade did a whistlestop tour of Europe promoting the song and the UK could be proud again to achieve a good result. This years show was a complete waste of time, it looked like the BBC had spent about 5 minutes cobbling the show together and that Pete Waterman spent even less time writing the song. I wonder if Mr Waterman has even bothered to watch the ESC in the past 20 years? I don't like the fact that we get no choice of song and just have something forced on us... okay it worked last year but I still don't think it's right. I fear that unless there is a major rehash of this song then we will be bottom five and the fact that Josh has zero charisma does not help.

That was all organised by the record label, not by the BBC. So they are partially to blame.
