Borderline cheating with the sand art. It took my mind away from the song and lulled me into a false impression that the performance was amazing when in reality the song is total crap. I'm open minded to gimmicks and stuff like that but when it completely upstages the song so nobody is actually paying any attention it's just not fair.

^ Then let's forbid everyone to use shows in their performances and just look at people on stage and nothing else. Like in the 60's.
Unfair is discriminating other entries because someone else is not creative enough.

We had a background. Just like everybody else.
So be fair and demand to take all backgrounds from everyone :p ;) The UK too.

@ Sean

That's exactly what happened to us last night. We were a group of 8 at home and nobody was paying attention to the song, only to the sand art. I wouldn't go as far as saying that the song was crap, 'cause imo it wasn't. But I suppose you could say it was borderline cheating.

@ AlekS I agree with you on the part that it's the others' fault for not taking advantage of the stage and the background.

Hmm a little bit confused about the performance. Enjoyed watching the girl in the background and the singer's dress was lovely with golden, feathery wings on her shoulders :D and yet, there was too much expression and the singer kept making rough moves with her arms and I was just like "aahh, stop it before they fall off!" :D And the song is "meh", not the best song on the Eurovision but it's not the worst either.

Once again you've missed the point and come back with a flawed argument.

I'm not saying that everyone should stand on stage with one microphone, one artist and a black screen with a spotlight. I'm quite open to anything that artists want on their backdrop. The sand art was a really good move and is for sure one of the best backdrops of the contest. But the song should come first. Effects can be used as much as they want but if the focus isn't on the song and this alters the result in their favour then it's most certainly not a good thing.

Exactly.

Yep. Imo, all songs suck this year so the show is the only thing that saves it for me.
I'd rather watch at Blue's and Jedward's backgrounds than listen to their songs.

Once again you have not a single clue about what I mean and come back with your own subjective opinion.

The song shouldn't come first just like any separate part of performance. It's about how everything works together which is up to everyone to decide.
ESC 2011 is full of mediocre songs so the only thing which is left for me is to rate everybody's creativity/charisma etc.

Don't be ridiculous. You can do what you want on stage.

I think that it's a bad thing for Ukraine that the sand art distracts from the song. There have been several occasions when a performance has distracted me from how good a song is. It was only after ESC 2009 that I realised how much I liked Mamo. I didn't vote for Russia, because I was too busy looking at Anastasia's big giant face.

I may wish that Ukraine had sent Zlata or Jamala instead of Mika, but I still always thought the song was more than good enough to qualify on its own merits.

The Sandart was incredible but it totally upstages the song! The song isn't bad imo but it definately ONLY qualified because of the sandart!

I don't think so ! Mika sung perfect notes just like Austria's repres. and the song isn't that bad for me. The message is beautiful (We are angels we're in danger...), Mika was cute, the presentation (the sand artist here) was amasing ! This entry is really good . Ok The musical composition isn't very good but 2/3 of what we heared in the second semifinal wasn't better either... It's my opinion, but please respect the singer, if you say that it Q only for the sandart meens that the singer, song, interpretation and other things were bad. I really found worese countries like Moldova, and still Q ( I really liked Bulgarian entry) . If Ukraine hadn't a good song the judges didn't let her to get trough the final . (Judges grades the voice/interpretation first, after the song composition and after the presentation, if the only good thing at this song were the presentation the judges wouldn't let Ukraine in the final ) . I really want to know how did the jury vote . If the jury ranked Ukraine lower then 10th position then all of you that said that it Q only for the sandart were right.

^ I expected 20th-10th place.
After the jury's rehearsal I started thinking about top-10.

But she surprised me too. It was her best performance after all rehearsalses. Much better camera work ... even despite that unpredictable looooong pause she wasn't nervous... after all technical screw ups with sound and cameras... she managed to give her best... that strength.
I like how they changed the ending a little and it worked ))))
I know that despite being cold she cried after the semi and I can imagine Kseniya's happiness right now
It was one of my most fave Ukrainian performances (among with Alyosha). I watched the show together with my mom and she was really proud - it was the best feeling for me.

I almost predicted our votes (I'm shocked that Russia gave us 10  ) ))) Ruslana was great too =)))
