Ugaly's last national final in the foreseeable future may be over, but the prize awards will continue.
The Lurkin' Bird is not an award solely for B-52s and future Ugly entries, we are actually going to award it retroactively as well!
In this topic, over time, former Ugly contestants will be brought up one after another chronologically in random intervals to receive their prizes, until eventually all 46 have received their rightful recognition!
Where better to start than the very beginning?
As soon as the opportunity arrived, Ugaly swiftly jumped at the chance to join the still young Nation Song Contest during its fourth edition, in a time before either semifinals or recaps, before the contest even had its own subforum. The rash new nation's agenda was clear from the start: be different, be unique and be ourselves! Balkan and pop was a common stylistical norm in the early days, and Ugaly's desire to strive away from that and present the fellow 21 competing nations with something new was no less than obvious when a three-song national final of only metal music appeared to embrace the people! This with dubious success... Saxon and Verjnuarmu, the latter of which received a new chance at a much later point, were the two bands beaten by Rammstein, the acclaimed industrial band from Germany, with one of their lesser known songs, Morgenstern from the album Reise, Reise. An exciting debut for Ugaly in the neighbouring Arjastan! Expectations back home were all over the place. Total rejection? Great reception? Points for originality? In the end, the first option came closest to the truth, as Rammstein brought Ugaly to the very bottom of the scoreboard on their first attempt. This however, would not prove to put the nation off. "Good thing it was us, we can handle it" said the Ugly delegation as they signed up for another go, and down the line this mentality would prove to come in handy more times than they initially anticipated. Rammstein and Morgenstern would eventually return in the very first NSC Congratulations in celebration of the contest's tenth edition, resulting in a last place yet again. The group has since been seen in more recent times representing the nations Spila and Viola Per Sempre, but their true origin remains as the representatives of a long-lived nation making its debut, with no idea where the future would take them.

It's time to reveal Ugaly's 48th consecutive entry.
With a fairly recent and unexpected success on the Ugly charts, Swedish melodic death metal band Scar Symmetry has broken fast but steady ground on their way to represent the nation in the contest. What the band gives with their music is a surprising mix of heavy growling and regular harmonic vocals in melodies that should bring at least an itch of interest to even anti-growling purists. Their entered song The Illusionist gives a flawless example of this, and we cling to our hopes that the other nations of NSC will be able to see what we see in this interesting amalgamation and not be thrown off by the initial death grunts, a vocal style commonly only well-regarded by underground tastes. Give it a chance and it won't disappoint!
