It's so cringe for Turkey to be part of the EU.
We will never be part of the EU unless we give up on our distinct culture (a mix of oriental and the west).
I don't want to lose this uniqueness we have.

It's true that Turkey is distancing itself more and more from Europe, but we were way far from being a member state even when we were democratic state on par with Greece, even more than them at particular occasions through history.

Also I don't want Turkey to return to Eurovision when i see all the eastern european and balkan countries having a tendency to send western-sounding radio friendly entries to get a good result from the juries. (hello bulgaria, greece)

That's just not true. You just need to stop being so damn religious, corrupt and conservative.

Off topic but I don’t think this reflects the reality that the EU is in. Balkan nations of EU are not as “western” as western EU nations at all. Homophobia or corruption are still significantly a reality for some of them while the EU that people think of at first is so far from that. Turkey would not need to guve up on its “uniqueness” but politically being friendly and giving more value to human life and freedom of opinion/press would be helpful.

In fact, that diversity was actually cherished by Europe. Istanbul was the European capital of culture in 2010. It was widely celebrated in Istanbul actually. And see where we are now :(

So, now that Erdogan won the election, we should wait for another 5 (?) years,
to hear some real eurovision news from Turkey, and not wishful thinking or speculation.

5 years? Erdogan will die before he leaves office stop kidding yourself

Yeah... and then probably some other lunatic that was pre-chosen by Erdogan will take over (does the guy have any kids that would be potential successors?). Anyways by the time of his death, Turkey will probably look like Iran or something so Eurovision is obviously a no no.

I can see why you would think that as an outsider, and I am sorry to use this word but it just fits perfectly, this is just a western European ignorance speaking under the western media influence. You need more research and insight before coming to that conclusion. I may elaborate further if needed but more importantly you need to research more if you want to make such bold assumptions as that.

You also said that Turkey would oppose Ukraine entering NATO, but Turkey was among the first countries to bring it up and support Ukraine. At this point I am not sure if you are just too pessimistic or just assuming what you wish.

Actually, media where I read is not so hard on Turkey as you might think. More maybe on Erdogan but not Turkey as a whole.

I am pessimistic that's probably the right description, it's just the world is so effed up that it's hard to view it any other way but of course I'm happy to be wrong.

Unfortunately so far I've been more right than wrong, and giving empty support when everybody knows it's not going to happen any day soon means very little.

Anyways I didn't want to get too political, I would love for Turkey to get back to the contest I just don't see it and so far you can't say I'm wrong about that.

Yeah I'm back, for now. What kept me is mostly FSC and my love for Eurovision. We can talk more about it in PM.

I still am very critical of some stuff going on on the forum and it's really not the same place any longer because of it (especially when those people literally mock you and make it all toxic), but in the end I won't let them destroy the fun and there are good people here too that enjoy talking to. As hard as it is to ignore such toxicity I will try my best.

Thanks for the offer but I was just curious after you wrote that very long farewell post. ;)

It is not a bad thing to say you were wrong :)

As I've said you have no research or insight to back up what you randomly claimed, as opposed to me, which I can back my facts up by the results of an independent statistic institution in Turkey which reflects the society's opinions on politic and social matters. Then again, if your best claim is "Oh I have been more right than wrong," then I don't really have a reason to explain a thing if they are just going in void.

At this point it just looks like you are going to just repeat yourself to justify yourself no matter what. I am not sure if I would say you have been more right than wrong. As far as my observation goes, you have entitled opinions and project it on people by calling them labels even if they tell you they are not what you claim them to be, which unfortunately is just blatant cyber-bullying. I don't generally take people seriously on the internet when they repeat words like memorized as a parrot would do and just close their eyes and ears to ignore the facts.

If you want to repeat how right you are again, please do so one last time but I have no will to continue with this if we are only claiming things and don't bother to show anything real.

Firstly, like I said this isn't the right thread for this discussion hence I don't really want to dig deeper into it here (eventhough it is an interesting topic).

I never said I'm always right, I like to be proven wrong. I said that often it turns out that my predictions are fairly close to reality, with that being said I'm talking more general politics now and not specifically about Turkey, just to clarify.

Oh and if you're also going to jump on the bandwagon and jump on the messenger and be part of the squad that literally make up excuses for a genocidal war, yes I agree, we don't have to continue. I never cyber bullied anyone, people were rightly called out but hey call it whatever you want, I'm over it by now. We are living in an upside down world where evil is good and good is evil and that's all I'm going to add to that.

If you are however genuinely interested in having a serious discussion with me and "prove me wrong" on matters, not judging me or whatever, I'm happy to in PM, but if you are just taking this opportunity to act like some others have done in here that made me seriously wanting to leave a forum I've been part of for a decade dedicated to something that I really enjoy, then thank you but no I kindly pass.

Soooooo... there are rumours that Turkey are coming back next year?

There is an ominous shape of what appears to look like Turkey in the latest ESC reel on instagram (featuring Petra Mede)... about 10 seconds in. It's too suspicious to be a coincidence, no? It's being discussed on reddit as a possible clue, plus along with Sertab Erener coming back to perform this year too I think there is definitely something on the cards. What do we guys think?

I think you could be onto something here. Turkiye has been reaching out more to Europe last year, for example when the European Union was talking about enlargement of the EU for countries such as Ukraine and Georgia, Turkiye was very interested in restarting their negotiations for EU membership.
Also Turkiye won their bid last year to host the football Euros in 2032 (hosts alongside with Italy), it would be Turkiye's first time as hosts.

I do see Turkiye reaching out to Europe more recently, so hopefully coming back to Eurovision is another example too.

I don’t think Turkey will return as long as Erodgan is dictator. His vision for Turkey is no transvestites , transsexuals, no men pretending they’re neither male or female. turkey has moved away from the LGB support and taken a more conservative stance. On a massive scale.

This may be more related to Sertab performing her winning entry this year at Eurovision (but a ballad version I think)
