even If coaches got medals for their respective countries (which would be charming), my dear Iceland would have lost their last medal contender today as the German handball team, coached by Alfred Gislason, played a disastrous match against Egypt in quarter final, lost 25:31 and got eliminated. The handball coaches of Bahrain and Japan are also from Iceland but they are also out already.
Apart from that, it was a fantastic day for Germany...
Spot-on! We won exactly 7 medals. Not exactly those I expected, but it doesn't matter.
The highlight was for sure the performance of our Women's team in the bicycle pursuit. Only yesterday they set a new world record but they pulverized this record tonday and beat it by two seconds. In the final race against Great Britain they were about to lap the British quartet which would be the biggest possible humiliation in a final race. It was probably the most dominant golden medal in a speed discipline in this Olympics and I am very proud of our girls. Nonetheless kudos to the British girls who were great too and let's not forget they were dominating this class for many years. It was about time, somebody dethroned them
Already in the early morning we won a golden medal in Women's long jump. Malaika Mihambo won it in a dramatic fashion since she was on the bronze place before the last jump. Then she became the first and only woman tonight pulling off a 7 metres jump
and climbing onto the first place and won our first gold in Athletics. We don't have many medal contenders in the Athletics events this year but so far we've reached the maximum. We should at least win one more Athletic medal in Javelin throw.
Beside the golden athletes we had two silver medalists today: Lukas Dauser after an almost flawless performance on the parallel bars & the 49erFX sailors Beucke/Lutz who pulled off a great medal race.
In general, the sailors were fantastic. The Men's 49er Heil/Plößel surprisingly won bronze. Surprisingly because it seemed to be a lost case before the medal race and they had to make a great comeback. In the Mixed Nacra race in turn we were about losing a safe 3rd place when our boat got a early penalty but somehow they kept their nerves and saved the bronze medal.
Another bronze medal was won by the canoe duet Brendel/Hecker. Tbh this was a bit of a disappointment because prior to the Olympics they had won every single international race they took part in this year. In the last 200 metres they proved their skills and if the race was a bit longer they could have gone for Gold I guess... however, they lost the race in the first half.
Another canoe racer disappointed a bit: Jacob Schöpf I expected to win at least bronze in the Kajak race but he ended up on the ungrateful 4th place. But that's not a shame since he is still a young guy with a bright future.
However, the Canoe racers should definitely improve in the next few days. It is the sports in which we are most successful and there are at least two races left in which we should go for gold.
Another disappointment is the general performance in the team sports events. In Rio we won 5 medals there (Hockey & football each Men and Women and the Handball men) but in Tokyo all teams are basically out. Only the Men's hockey team is gonna fight for Bronze against India and can retrieve the honour of our teams

Tomorrow might be even more successful for us. I expect us to win around 7 medals tomorrow.
