It was a brilliant performance and they both made such a connection with the camera. I thought that i'd be thinking about the fact they weren't playing their instruments live on such a raw song whilst watching but it didn't cross my mind at all. Could such a simple song with only three chords be the recipe for winning Eurovision? I don't know but this will surely please a lot of people, fine music fans and casual. It stood out last night.

Can this actually win? xshock

It would be such a shocking winner since ever I can remember (didn't watch those early 2000 years). I don't think there's one soul who can brag of having seen it coming. It would sort of make sense, though. But maybe it's gonna be 2nd place only, like Italy in 2011 where roughly the same thing happened as well.

Or maybe it's just going to flop in the final after having dark horsed the semi

Who knows?....

Lots of people thought that this is the year for a surprise winner but by that I think they meant someone who was still high in the betting odds. No one did see the possibility of a Netherlands win. In fact, many said that this had no chance of winning when it was announced with some even suggesting it wouldn't pass the semi.

The camera work was perfect and they created a brilliant atmosphere. Sanna stands in their way though and she as well had a very strong connection with the camera.. and we mustn't forget Carl who is coming on Thursday. Besides Valentina, he has the most emotional song of the year with an incredibly raw, fragile interpretation. Both Carl and The Common Linnets have untypical Eurovision songs that are going to appeal to fans of alternative music. I still think Sanna is the one to beat but it could be a close, surprising race.

What about the UK? Two days ago I was pretty certain that was it, and getting quite upset about it, but now I'm not so sure. What do you feel about your country's possibilities?

Can't see Sanna winning in any way or form, I've said it time and time again. Although I like the song and it's a competent ballad it belongs to another time, a different era altogetther... and I don't believe I can survive another hat chewing session in such a short period, so she better not, lol.

I think the hype around my own countries entry is because of people from my own country:rolleyes: We finally have a song sung by someone who doesn't have a free bus pass so of course, the excitement is over the top and through the roof. "Children of the Universe" is ok. It's still cliche and stinks of BBC. Molly's voice will repel a lot of people, my mother for instance disliked her voice immensely.

It's such a tight, exciting year. There really is no true front runners and those hovering around the top of the pack are questioned by fans. Sanna and Aram are not screaming "winner" to a lot of people. That's why I believe Norway will win this year, or perhaps now The Netherlands? Gosh, I hope it comes down to the final point. I want a nail biting finalxheat Sanna has a good chance to sneak it in the end though. UK will be lucky to sit just inside the top 10.

Maybe the Netherlands will win this year! The last time that they won was back in 1975, it's a western European country that can afford to host this contest plus that this is a very good song, so... maybe we will see ESC next year from Amsterdam! ;)

I discovered the songs of the 1st semi yesterday, so I'll give my opinion on the Dutch entry.

Well... All I can say is that the Netherlands greatly improved their entries in recent years. Last year, I liked Anouk very much but this time, it takes it to another level. High quality song really, it is a kind of slow country-ish song beautifully sung by two beautiful people. The idea of the road at the beginning was nice and the camera work (which mostly consisted in close-ups) was creating an intimate atmosphere, one could also clearly see the symbiosis between both singers.

The performance is solid too and it wasn't boring at all. To me, more than Armenia and Hungary, The Netherlands are strong enough to win. I look forward to their performance on Saturday since it was so enjoyable and smooth. I'm glad that they qualified, they really deserved to.

It's still to early to do a ranking of the songs now, but it'll definitely be in my top 10, and I feel like it's a grower so it may end up very high with me. It was one of the four songs that impressed me yesterday, so see you on Saturday and good luck guys!

I don't think this will win - as much I'd like to see a Dutch victory - itunes positions can't guarantee everything, can they? Anouk did well on itunes last year, and I really believed she'd finish top 5 but alas she did not!

I wonder if they juries saved this? Nonetheless I'm happily surprised since it's one of my fave songs of this year's ESC. Perhaps a bit too boring for the context though, still though.

I don't think so, for example I've seen many polls that swedish newspapers have done and the Netherlands are very high in all of them. But of course I know that it might not be them who vote!

So it must be the juries buying the song on iTunes, making it the best performing ESC song on iTunes since last night?
