The Odds For The Final.
Who Are You Betting on?

Please DONT let these odds influence your votes.
Good luck to all participants.
Good luck to you all.
May the best song win.

Intersting odds!
Only 2 things missing rates for top 6 or top 10 for example, and not a winner....
How you can make a bet Spanky?

Re: THE BIG TOURNAMENT 1956 - 2011 - SEMI FINALS!!!!!!!

Actually you may be surprised. Some songs who were landslide winners in previous rounds dropped in the Quarter Finals or Semis. Here are the biggest 'losers' starting out as early favorites and then dropping quickly out of the race.

:rs: 2008
Round 2: 1st place with a 59 point Lead
QF: 8th place
SF: 11th place

:tr: 2010
Round 2: 2nd place
QF: 23rd place

:gr: 2001
Round 2 : 1st place with a 17 point lead
QF: 3rd place
SF: 11th place

:fi: 2006
Round 2: 2nd place
QF: 17th Place

Yugoslavia 1990
Round 2: 1st place with a 10 point lead
QF: 2nd place
SF: 14th Place

:uk: 1976
Round 2: 2nd place
QF: 19th place

:ba: 2011
Round 2: 1st place with a 5 Point Lead
QF: 7th place
SF: 19th place (2nd to last)

:ee: 2011
Round 2 : 2nd place
QF: 13th place

:nl: 1975
Round 2 : 2nd place
QF: 14th place

:bg: 2011
Round 2 : 1st place with a 3 point lead
QF: 11th place

:gr: 2005
Round 2 : 2nd place
QF: 11th place

:ua: 2008
Round 2 : 2nd place
QF: 14th place

Here are a few songs that almost didn't make it and then somehow recovered

:fr: 1977
Round 2: 7th place
QF: 2nd place
SF: 3rd place

:se: 1996
Round 2: 7th place
QF: 5th place
SF: 9th Place

:hr: 1998
Round 2: 6th place
QF: 1st place
SF: 1st place

:hr: 1999
Round 2: 8th place
QF: 2nd place
SF: 10th place

So believe me when I say, anything is possible :D

Re: THE BIG TOURNAMENT 1956 - 2011 - SEMI FINALS!!!!!!!

I've never understood how odds work. What does it mean to have 1.09 vs 120?

All entries are based to the pound.

Its simply a calcalation of probability.

ill explain using the pound £

If a song has odds of 120/1 - Eg; Germany 2011, This means that for every £1 you bet on Germany 2011, you will win £120. Therefore, the probability of Germany 2011 winning is low.
Molitva has the greatest odds at 1.25, meaning for every £1 you place on Serbia 2007, you will win £1.25 - The probability of winning is high.
When taking a gamble/risk, Placing money on a song that isnt at the top of the table, will win you more money.

I hope this has helped.

Thank you for trying to help, but I still don't get it. Why does winning £120 automatically make the probability of that song winning low?

Re: THE BIG TOURNAMENT 1956 - 2011 - SEMI FINALS!!!!!!!

Odds go by statistics and probability and chance.
So the chance Germany 2011 has of winning are slim. If I was a bookie, people might bet on Germany 2011 with the enticing win fall of a lot of money. But chances are, that the player will lose their bet and I wouldn't have to pay out anything!

The lower the ratio the greater the odds that bookmakers offered a chance to win big money at other options such simply, no one will)
For example if you Lena now win at odds 120 / 1 then you will win in £120-£1=£119 ))) (bet £1)

Re: THE BIG TOURNAMENT 1956 - 2011 - SEMI FINALS!!!!!!!

I am going to post the final show in just a little while. In the meantime I'd like to make a suggestion in regards to the voting.

You can still either PM me, post your votes in here or use the scorewiz link I'll provide to you however I discourage to vote your votes in here cause I am going to reveal the results one vote at a time just like the actual ESC and posting them in here will spoil it a little as some people have already seen your votes. Again, you can post them in here if that's what you want to do and I'll try to count and delete them as quickly as possible but I suggest to either use scorewiz or if you don't trust that website to PM me instead.

Stay tuned

It was pretty easy deciding the Top10... but rating them was too hard... I am happy in the end :) I hope some of the songs from my Top10 Wins :)

I wrote in my Word about 23-24 of the 30 countries and I tried to vote! Too difficult to pick just 10 and EXTREMELY difficult to rank them! I could give 12 pts to ALL of them!

Thank you Matt for this great game all those months! :D It was fantastic and I discovered a lot of great songs! The big winner of the songs I discovered through this game is the Netherlands 1980! It didn't get my 12 pts in the final but it has become one of my all time favourites! :)

I'll vote for the scorewiz link, but this is actually easier to decide than a couple of the semis as there is only around 11 or 12 songs I actually like.

Agreed with above poster, I discovered a lot of new songs. My favourite new one is definitely Cool Vibes by Vanilla Ninja.

I just voted via PM. I applied a more rigorous system this time, I gave all the songs a note out of twenty based on voice, song, performance, and personal opinion. None finished under 10/20, and my top ten only comprises those that received 17/20 or more.

I'm very excited to see the results! Regardless of the winner, this will have been an amazing tournament! Thank you Matt!

Voted via pm.

I always thought I was a hardcore ESC fan but the tournament showed that I wasn't :D I discovered so many great songs which probably I was never going to discover by myself!

Thank you Matt for this tournament :)

i have just voted via pm. cannot wait sunday evening! it was really great game! i must add that my first 5 songs are some of my all-times favourites
next 5 songs mybe don't belong to my all-times top10, but they are definitely among 5% of the best songs to me ever.

(do i have to add that 12, 10 and 8 pointers are from my 2 favourite editions of ESC ever? :D )
